What is everyone's opinion on Florida's struggle on Offense?

Was Dan Mullen more of the mastermind behind the offense than everyone thought?

Some on here have mentioned this and this recent article pretty much sums up my thoughts thus far.

</p>
In my opinion, the UF offense hasn't been the same since Dan Mullen left for Mississippi State. Last year's offense had as much talent as the year before but paled in comparison. The difference is the offensive coordinators, NOT the talent level. Since Coach Mullen left the play-calling has been clunky and predictable, and the offensive line has been questionable. All Steve Addazio's responsibility.</p>

My fear is that Meyer's past successes as a head coach may have been directly dependent on Dan Mullen's ability to handle the offense for him, in its entirety leaving coach Meyer with less stress and more time to focus on other administrative issues.</p>

Since Addazio, Meyer is more stressed, almost to the point of quitting, and the offense has been anemic at best. I believe that Urban is, or has, tried to give Addazio the same free reign that he gave Dan Mullen and it has backfired in his face. Furthermore, I believe that Addazio is the one who led Meyer to believe that his offense was ready, and naively, Meyer took his word.</p>

that Dan was more a part of it than a lot of people thought. Urban Meyer has always gotten credit for that offense- and he WAS the head coach, so there was something to be said for that- but the reality is Dan is a great coach period.

I think some of it may be not adjusting the offense to their personnel- particularly the QB. Dan is a spread guy, no doubt about it, but he has also shown that he isn't afraid to utilize the I-formation or even the wishbone if that fits his players and the situation, all the while still running the spread and still utlizing the players abilities out of that as well. I will admit that I did not watch Florida, but I would be surprised if they did the variety that we have shown so far with their players.

And let's not discount the possibility that perhaps John Brantley is overrated and possibly even sucks.

correctly to him. A new qb has enough to worry about without having to worry about the snap. But I agree, Mullen had a lot to do with FL success.

Objectively speaking, I think anyone would have to agree that the evidence is mounting week after week. The offensive results at Florida were more due to him than Meyer. He is a very good offensive coordinator.

Now whether he turns out to be a very good head coach remains to be seen. I think he probably will be in the end. But the jury is still out. They may be on the verge of a decision, however. The next three weeks should help them out a bit.

I was thinking the same thing after watching Florida this past Saturday. They were not nearly as ready for opening day as Miss State. State played two QB's and three RB's and I have no idea how many different WR's. I think the line even swapped out players (I would like to see who played when). I was extremely impressed with the close to mid-season form that State had this past weekend. Plus, Florida looked just the opposite. Even Herm Edwards noticed how ready Mullen seemed to have two young QB's to play. OH, I know this because I recorded the game on my DVR while at game and re-watched it yesterday morning.

It's the facts:

1. Addazio is not as good as Mullen. This has become obvious and I don't know how much more evidence is needed

2. You just don't transition from a running Spread to a passing Spread without some growing pains

3. They don't have the WR's to be a big time passing Spread- I mean it when I say our WR's are as good or better than Fla's right now. They have lost 7 of their top WR's the last 2 seasons, and replacing that is not easy.

4. Running out of a passing Spread is harder unless the defense is really scared of your WR's and has to always keep twin safeties deep. If they dont fear you as much and will keep throwing an extra in the box on run downs, it can be tough on you.

Wasn't Tyler considering Florida and MSU?<div>
</div><div>Tyler tied the record for TD's in his FIRST GAME. Yes it was a terrible Memphis team but we have had QB's that have played terrible teams and not been able to complete passes. Great poise, great mechanics, great attitude and focus, great height. Yes, his first TD should have been picked off and would have been against any SEC team, but he looked great nonetheless.</div><div>
</div><div>Tyler looked more like a typical "Florida QB" on Saturday than anyone else I've seen. Auburn will be a totally different game and they will come after Tyler big time, but I think Mullen will have him prepared for that with some plays to protect him. Mullen is fantastic for QB's, I think this is a known fact in the college football circles. Relf and Tyler are a good combination and I am sure Mullen will have teams guessing on pass/run plays with each of them in there.</div><div>
</div><div>I spoke to Tyler's father before the game and he was a little nervous. I can't imagine a dad prouder than he was Saturday. Good for Tyler and his family. Just one game but you have to love it for them.</div>

it looked like Florida was trying to run a spread geared for Tim Tebow...instead of a spread geared for John Brantley (more Steve Spurrier type spread).

I know the Auburn Boosters have some serious cabbage but hell, Florida Boosters/Alumni should be able to ante up higher to bring in somebody even much better than Addazio???

Why the hell is Addazio even the OC anyways? isn't he just a simple OL coach who got promoted as a trial run after Mullen departed?

Right behind Bama and Texas, I suspect Urb and Florida AD should have the money to ante up and hire anybody they damn well want right?

I would suspect if Urban really wanted to run a spread, he probably needs to go ahead and steal Malzahn away from Auburn and start recruiting a Cam Newton clone to run the Spread.

But, sadly, they will probably come back after Mullen again if/when Urb really quits one day.....

of a new center and quarterback. Somewhere over the weekend, I heard a comparison of Florida's offense in '08 under Mullen and last year under Addazio. Dead even, pretty much. Why? Probably because they each had the same players.

After this season is when you can compare them.

so, they hired Addazio from within. It makes sense- they were good on offense, so why not try to keep it going?

I think Mahlzahn might be a little bit different philosophy wise from Meyer- enough that there might be some clashes. They are very similar though.

2008- Florida scored 75 TD's and only kicked 12 FG's...lethal offense
2009 (without Mullen)- Florida scored only 58 TD's but did kick 22 FG's...a 17 TD difference in a season is huge

Their yards pergame was about even though....

Fla misses Mullen and lacks talent at WR- thats why the struggle. Their OL is supposed to be one of the best in the SEC- no excuses there.

As far as Florida's offense, Pouncey had to have played the worst out of all centers in the Sec. As somebody else said, at least ten snaps went nowhere close to Brantley.
