So the defensive line for OM started this whole landshark thing...and of course all the lame *** rebel fans have jumped on the band wagon...If I do remember correctly I believe LL Cool J used that same hand on the head move (resembling a shark?) in one of his movies/music videos if someone knows what I'm talking about please share... so just like a typical OM fan they have all accepted it as their own idea...I heard they were passing out mardi gras beads at the Cotton Bowl with sharks on them...that's about as gay as a hand-job on your honeymoon!

football. The Purple People Eaters, Steel Curtain, Desert Swarm, etc.

I thought Landsharks was pretty creative.

as far as I know. Well, except for some LL Cool J movie apparently, but I'm not totally versed in the LL catalog.

It's at least new to college football.

i would much rather see a bunch of old farts in the stands putting their hands to their heads making shark fins when we do something well than seeing those same bunch of old farts doing the DPR.? you guys can be happy about the possibility of it coming back but i won't be of the same opinion. for future reference of why i don't like it please review the following once more:

movie he was in, Deep Blue Sea.

The hand signal thing by the players is pretty neat, but not neat enough to teach at freshman orientation or anything.

The movie was Any Given Sunday, and they were the Miami Sharks I believe. Hence they did the Shark thing. LL Cool J was the RB. Jamie Foxx was the hot shot Michael Vick-style QB, Steamin Willie Beamen. Lawrence Taylor was in it I believe as well.

And yes they did the shark motion thing.

Also, I think it was actually Powe that started it. He was the only one I saw doing it early in the year, and apparently it caught on as the season went on. I like it for the reasons OP4 stated. It gives the defense an identity and a swagger.

Much like I think MSU should try to steal the Christopher Walken "Need More Cowbell" bit to play on the Jumbotron, I think we should steal the old SNL "Landshark" bit to play on ours. I'm sure that copyrights are an issue that would keep either from happening, but both would be a good idea.

Edited to add: Check at about the 40 second mark, from Any Given Sunday

And I definitely remember seeing it during other parts of the movie during the actual games, as one of their celebrations.

While I do cringe at the thought of middle-aged men in VHS doing the landshark signal, your post is *!*!%#% stuipid.

"Lame *** rebel fans have jumped on the band wagon..."

OR, maybe they simply caught on to something the players were doing because because the players were performing quite well on the field. This would never have stuck if the front seven hadn't made a habit of eating QBs the last several games of the season. Isn't it pretty much the norm for a fan base to pick up on something stupid their team does?

"...so just like a typical OM fan they have all accepted it as their own idea.."

This doesn't even make sense. They accepted it as their own idea? WTF?

It had to do with his nick name at the KS house. about once a game, after making a tackle he would look up to the student section and do the hand to head thing.</p>

I believe Powe took it to the games. The Florida game was the first time I remember it showing up in a game.

The State game was the best though.

Not saying you couldn't/shouldn't make fun of the landshark phenomenon. But, the DPR was a choreographed dance done by several players at one time in the middle of the field (also done by the band at the '99 Egg Bowl and some lame orientation leader several years later). The landshark thing is a simple hand gesture individual players do after they get a sack or a good tackle. Hell, most people didn't even notice them doing it until the video hit Youtube.

Lots of things that would otherwise seem lame or gay are cool when you're kicking ***.

It was a running joke in practice started by Fein that carried over to the games. The climax of it being the 11 sack performance against State.

At first it was pretty funny, and still is when the players do it, but I promise you it will be run severely into the ground by us fans. Although, the more annoying it is to your opponent, the more fun it is to do.
He seems to have taken the initiative on this one.

refers to himself as "Sharkman." He is the same guy who told Nutt that he needed to lose some weight before next year... Really Jerrell... you need to lose weight. I wouldn't think so. You only weigh 360. The same guy who's mother said he couldnt read. The same one that took several years to qualify.

the Dog Pound Rock is the cooliest thing you ever seen. Horse ****! What is Gay is you saying it is Gay. It is a bunch of kids having a good time
on the football field. What is Gay is the OM fans that keep playing the SNL skit thinking it has something to do with that. It has nothing to do with
that, it has to do with a defensive player making a big play and the rest of the players go into a frenzy like sharks feeding when there is blood in the
water. It pumps them up and makes them try harder to make a big play to outdo the last guy that made one.
