What is the deal with Fred Thomas?

I have seen nothing out of him at all that suggest he is the shooter he was alledged to be. He is like Ravern without the shooting ability. Is he hurt, high, or just not that good?

I was going to post the same thing. What the hell does he do?

Most minutes per game on the team, but tied for 5th in PPG. Wost shooting % on the team. Worst FT % on the team. Under .300 from 3. 5th in assists. 5th in rebounds. Tied for 4th in steals.

I don't know, but his shot mechanics look very weird to me. Hard to believe he shot a good percentage in HS.

Remember last year when we took our lumps but we said with FTF and Chicken we had some pieces to work with, but they had to shoot better? Well, that's not really happening.

FTF as a freshmens was 32.8% from the floor, 23.8% from three, and a very solid 79.5% from the line. His freshmens to sophomore leap has him at 32.0/29.2/46.7.

Chicken as a freshmens was 40.5% from the floor, 19.4% from three, and only 55.4% from the line. Through seven games he is at 53.3/14.3/61.3. The numbers from the floor are solid, and somewhat indicative of his ability to get to the rim and out on the break when we run. Last year he took on average two treys per game. This year at least he has only attempted seven threes (1-7, so one per game), and his turnovers are down from four per game to three per game. That projects well for his senior year.***

Bottom line is all of our guys have to play better, but if these two in particular don't improve, we are going to be spinning our wheels until they graduate or we find someone else who is better.

So far, I'm very disappointed in the lack of progress by our sophomores, other than Sword. It's still early, but right now they look like exactly the same players they were this time last year.

Spinning our wheels until they graduate? From a recruiting rankings perspective, those guys and Ware are our top talents on the roster. So far, it's not looking like next year's class is going to overstep them either. If there's a light at the end of the tunnel, it's a long ways off I'm afraid

Yes, spinning our wheels until they graduate. Spinning wheels = not making any forward progress. We aren't going to get better unless the players on the roster get better or we get new/additional, better players in the next two years.

Ok, agreed and it may just be semantics here... but I look at it more from the standpoint that it's not that Fred/Sword are the problem. The problem is is that they're the best players currently on our team. We don't need them to graduate as much as we just need much better players around them.

I agree but I think it is both. We need better talent around them, but the two of them have to get better. They either need to improve their game and keep getting major minutes for 2.5 more years, or we need to find enough good talent that they are relegated to reserve roles. I guess Gavin needs to be in that group too. Since we've had trouble even filling out a roster the last two years, the better situation would be the three of them get their acts together, and Ready, Dunlap, Black etc are players too. In my mind I would like to think that a Ready, Sword, Freddy, and Ware foursome could compete, but we need another big guy to round it out. Dunlap, Houston and Black probably aren't the answer to that either.

Yep... and if the old adage that says that players make their biggest jump between their freshmen to sophomore years is true, that doesn't bode well

Calm down. It's seven games in. We are gonna be fine this year.

Win 15 this year. Win 20 next year.
