How can you possibly say one bad word about the way this search is going? I'm as antsy as anybody to get our guy, but Byrne has done an incredible job so far..think about this:

1. Has anybody come out and said they have withdrawn their name from our job? Hell, even PetersEn came out and said he "had no offer"...think about how stupid Mississippi looked in their last search...Washington was obviously turned down a couple of times...

2. People can say what they want, but this is a good job because of what we are about to pay someone...Lots of coaches will come here to make 2-2.5 million a year

3. We have probably the top coordinator in the damn nation as a candidate. Think about that. Think about our last 3 hires- the best one of the group was the NCAA's most wanted. The other two were coaching nobodys. Oklahoma hired a top coordinator the last time they hired. Georgia hired a top coordinator. TT did the same. Mississippi hired a top one in Tooberville. How many top coordinators from big schools have been flops? Especially compared to the amount of successful ones.

I think too many of you are letting a bunch of Rebel f*cks mess with your heads because their search was such a clusterf*ck when they landed Orgermoron. Ease up and take a damn lortab- we are in a great position right now and I couldnt be happier. We arent rushing to make a dumb hire. We are getting all the info to make the correct decision for a very important hire.

...I don't have a dog in the hunt. In my head coach poll question, I voted for whoever Byrne wanted. I still feel that way, and I'm not worried.

Ask me again though when the story breaks or the announcement is made.

THIS is our reality. This website with maybe a little BDJ and Jeans sprinkled in is all we know. All of the so-called ups and downs of this search have taken place right here. This is the lens through which we are viewing this entire thing.

For all we know, Byrne has interviewed 25 different prospects and won't offer a single one until he's ready. Do y'all understand how many "leading candidates" we've had in the past week? Everything we know, we know because some anonymous ***** decides to post it for who knows what reason.

If you ask me, Veazey has done a hell of a job through all this. You have to know that the temptation is there for him to take one of these rumors, find a smidgen of substantiating evidence and report it as truth. The pressure on him to nail this thing is huge. But he's stuck by his ethics and reported in a responsible manner.

He knows better than to follow the whims of plebes.

I am not trying to propagate anything Ole Miss in this post. First we didn't look bad at all in our last coaching search, so I assume that you meant the one before Nutt.

I think that your second point is mildly retarded in essence. Just because someone pays well does not mean that you can get anyone. I think that a lot of people would agree that the potential for upward movement and growth is one major thing a person looks at when interviewing for jobs. Now if you do not have a job, you're more than likely to take whatever is out there. While the sky is the limit at State, the track record of individuals having sustained success over a long period of time or going on to higher profile jobs (Darrell Royal aside) is quite scarce. I am not saying that OM does not have face those same problems, but I am saying that us what potential candidates are looking and are having people tell them.

I am all for yall getting better because that is the only time when OM gets off their *** to do anything. flame away

What 17ing search? Nutt landed in your damn lap. If Nutt wouldn't have fallen in your laps, I'm sure Boone would have 17ed it up again. This is a mother17ing coaching search. You got damn candidates that we know, that they know that we know are interested in the job and have been talked to about their interest and they are saying nothing. Byrne is doing a helluva job as far as keeping everything on the down low.

point 1- you had no search last time...Nutt was contacted, said he wanted the job, and then ya'll fired Orgermoron...end of story

point 2- moving up PLUS going from 250K to 2-2.5 million will make alot of men jump at it...how many people you know would turn down a chance to make 8 times what they currently make? Works the same way in the coaching profession</p>

.....all the boards and laughing at all the silliness. You're right, so far this situation has been handled greatly. We're just all impatient, as well as nervous because of how we've done things in the past. We all need to remember that Larry Templeton is no longer the AD. Repeat, Larry Templeton is no longer the AD,

That is all.

With Hudspeth puts you in a position to feel this confident about how the search is going. Reading between the lines of your post about Patterson-hudspeth I wonder if you know more than your friendship will let you discuss. Damn I'm ready for this to be over and for our faith in byrne to be vindicated.

You may have already answered this, but knowing Hudspeth personally, do you think he is capable of being the HC at a SEC school right now?

Actually, I think you'd have seen the same thing from our coaching search as you are seeing with yours had we not landed Nutt so quickly. Boone hired a search firm, just like Byrne did, so you wouldn't have heard anything publicly about our search until the search firm had told him who his best candidates were.

Those search firms are the best way to combat a dumbass AD. They know what they are doing. They save you the embarassment of getting turned down by anyone, and they do a great job of recommending the top candidates that would fit your job. A search firm landed us Andy Kennedy, and I'd say that he was probably the best possible hire we could've made for our program. Boone was going to do the same with the football search until Nutt came available.

Petersen
Patterson
Brian Kelly
Tubby
Graham
Whittington
Gil

So, in your mind Wilson is a better hire than all of these guys. Or is this a Miles situation, where anything Byrne does you think is great.

Im not saying Wilson is not a bad hire, but a home run? A guy with no head coaching experience and only 4 years of experience at the coordinator level is a home run?

Maybe he could be, but what other schools are trying to hire him. With Stoops and Meyer several schools wanted to hire them, but OK and FL put the best packages together and were able to hire them.

yes, I do think he is capable. Has he earned it? No. He needs to spend some time as an OC at a top school to earn the right to be a BCS head coach

PetersEn= HR
Whittington= HR
Kelly= HR

Tubby, Gill, Graham- good, solid hires

Wilson is the the top OC in the freaking nation... for a Miss State, Mississippi, Kentucky, or any other school like we are- thats a definite HR

aGAIN I ask- How many coordinators from top 10 programs have been busts? Compared to successful ones- it isnt even close

According to who? You?

He has a great offense with incredible talent, but if he is the top OC in the country how many other jobs has he interviewed? Also, who decided he was top OC in the country?

So hiring a guy with 4 years of coordinator experience, with no head coaching experience is a home run?

I think your definition of a home run is just different from mine. Basically you are saying that Cut was a home run hire for Ole Miss. A home run hire is one that makes college football fans take notice and Petersen, Patterson, Kelly and Whittington would all do that.

White is predictable and uncertain. He has ZERO head coaching experience and you are going to throw 2 million plus at a guy that has never been a head coach, but in your mind this is a Home run?

Seems like a safe easy hire, of course a coordinator is going to jump at making 7 to 8 times his salary, especially since he has never been offered anything close to that before.

"Also, who decided he was top OC in the country?"

The record books...his offense is the only one in the history of college football to score 60+ points in 5 straight games

"Basically you are saying that Cut was a home run hire for Ole Miss. A home run hire is one that makes college football fans take notice"

No, but Tooberville was...his defenses were one of the top in the nation before he was hired...the entire college football world will take notice if he hire Wilson

"Seems like a safe easy hire,"

No, Nutt was an easy, safe hire...Wilson is a ****** HR hire

Wilson has many more than just four years of coordinator experience. He has been a college offensive coordinator since 1992, first at Miami Ohio, then Northwestern, then Oklahoma. And his offenses at Northwestern were among the tops in the country. Hell, he was the offensive coordinator when NW shared the Big Ten championship in 2000. Yeah, I'll take him.
