on a slow afternoon, surely this will generate a little interest, since we have so many uniform experts.

the question is simple: what is your favorite MLB hat of all-time? if you'd like, you can give one for AL and one for NL. please include a picture so we'll know exactly what you're talking about. if you can give years, then that's great. (this was a post on uniwatchblog the other day.)

i'll go first. (this is actually pretty tough - i could go several ways)

NL - san fran giants. growing up cheering for clark, brantley, mitchell, williams, etc, plus it always looks sharp. except when on barry bonds's big *** head.

AL - baltimore orioles circa ripken/ripken/ripken

I'm a cubs fan, but I've always liked the interlocking SL on the Cards hats. AL... Hmmm... I'd probably have to go with Kansas City. I'm pretty simple

Seattle Pilots from 1969, their only year in existance. They are now known as the Milwaukee Brewers.

St. Louis Cardinals from the 40's-50's. The hat was navy blue with a red bill and the classic STL logo in red.

I think when I was about 8 I asked my dad why the Expos had "e l b" on their hats.....took me awhile to figure out that was supposed to be an "M" for montreal...stupid French...

The thing I will always remember the Expos for is that in the early 80's, they would beat the Braves like a rented mule. I know everyone beat the Braves before the '82 season, but it always seemed like Montreal would hang 11 or 12 runs on them while never giving up more than a couple of runs. On a related subject, back in '96, Warren Cromartie tried to pick up my girlfriend (wife now) at a silent auction event at Joe Robbie stadium after an oldtimers game. She was reminiscing about when as a school girl in Ontario, he and other expos players would visit and sign autographs. It was an instance where if she went with him, there wasn't a damn thing I could have done. Crow was still a bad ***. Ahh good times. Off subject, but I thought I would share.

I agree that the old brewer's logo is the best ever, at least most creative. I like the Reds, though. This modern-day classic one:

But especially this 1965 version:

the 1914 cubs

LA Angels with the halo

I didn't realize that Cubs hat was actually worn. A friend of mine has it, and its one of the best looking hats I've ever seen. Probably my favorite. I've always been a fan of Boston's hats too. I like the simple ones. The O's hat you posted in the original is a good one too.

But throw in the Detroit hat from the late 90's. All blue with the orange D. The current ones are pretty good, too, just changing the D from orange to white. If anyone wants to put in the pic, I'd appreciate it.

I think MLB wants a team in the nation's capitol, and to me they are basically like an expansion team. Plus, they have a brand new stadium. If they can get some good talent through there- Strasburg is a great start because he is a guy I think they can build their pitching staff around, there is no reason they can't be good and draw well. They also have Zimmerman, who is a great player to build around and is a local talent- played college baseball at Virginia.

I also think Manny Acta will be fired, I think he is a horrible manager.

I am a lifelong Tigers fan because of my Dad. I've never been to Detroit, but they are right after MSU in my loyalties. They wear the blue hat with the old-English script "D." The "D" is white at home and orange on the road. I've always been partial to my two baseball teams' lids. The interlocking MS and the old-English "D" on solid maroon and blue respectively are good looking hats.

Also, special thanks continue to flow from my heart to the 1984 World Series Champion Detroit Tigers. They may represent the pinnacle of my fandom. My family bought a giant satellite tv antenna/receiver so that we could watch the Tigers games. The centerfielder on that team, Chet Lemon, was from Mississippi. My awareness of sports as a child began in 1979. Man from 79-90 I thought my two teams were awesome. State with CWS appearances in 79, 81, 85, and 90, and the Tigers winning the series in 84 and making the playoffs in 87.

A hat has a full brim all the way around, while a cap has a visor.
And everyone knows that the old California Angels' cap was the best.

but thanks for trying to correct me. caps are hats, but hats aren't necessarily caps. i can draw a picture for you if you think that might help.</p>
