I have been as critical as anyone on Stansbury, but you can't just give all of the credit to the players when we win, and all of the blame to the coach when we lose. Doesn't really work that way

so we obviously did better than Vegas thought we were going to do, and those guys are usually spot on.

Withthat said, that was our worst defensive effort all year and the most points we have given up this year. Couple that with a terribleday for Deville Smith = a 5 point win on the road versus an average to above average opponent.

But Stans is a trainwreck when it comes to substitutions, timeoutsand the lack thereof. To wit:

Sidney, late in a game, cannot play man-to-man. Lewis should be playing the late minutes when defense is key.
Deville is either hot or cold. Only reason he should stay in a game when cold is if he is handling the ball well. He was doing neither.
When your lead goes from 15 to 7, call time outand regroup. (Heretofore renamed the Richard Williams dilemma)
Get more penetration and kick from Bost when he struggles shooting.

1) Sidney defense. I don't know what game you were watching but Stans substituted Sidney for Lewis for Defense every time he could for the last 4-5 minutes
2) Deville. He has to play when Bost gets 4 fouls very early in the 2nd half. you don't have the luxury of playing who you would like to. He had to be the ballhandler to keep Bost out of the possibility of 5th foul.
3) Normally, I would agree with this but I actually found this to be a very good coaching moment. You are not always going to be able to call a timeout. I thought Stansbury did a good job of letting the players play this one out. You have to see if they can. He did and they did.
4) See point #2. Bost couldn't drive the ball with 4 fouls.

I thought it was a good win considering Hood and Dee were both in foul trouble. Tough team on the road. Not a great team but they were a tough bunch.

March no one will care about this one in the W column unless be get some RPI cred if they have the season some think they will have.

Really liked Sid's play today.

I mean, they only beat this team by 8 in Tuscaloosa. I wonder if their fans had a meltdown about almost losing... This board is just losing its mind. We don't even need our rivals to try to tear down our team. Its being done by our own fans.

*Thunderclap. this response is NOT directed at you. Just felt like saying it in this thread. your post was very valid*

I'm not. He 'sucks' as I put it because he doesnt seem to make very intelligent decisions late in a game.

1. Sidney's inability or unwillingness to get back on defense in the last 3 minutes provided the opposing team easy lane access.
2. Sidney's lack of hustle produced a rebound.....on a point blank uncontested layup that was missed.
3. Deville...he misunderstands his role. He should be penetrating and drawing defenders. If they collapse, pass. But we have nobody looking for the pass and he isnt looking to anyway.
4. Your interpretation that Stansbury "let this one play out" is my interpretation that he relied on luck.
5. Bost can most certainly drive if his intention is to attract defenders and not shoot. The act of shooting is what causes the offensive foul. NOT driving.

Gravedigger lost all credibility when he admitted he did not watch/pay attention to the game. Stans substituted offense for defense with Sidney and Lewis many times down the stretch of that game. You cannot criticize the coach on something that he actually did! That would be like me criticizing Mullen this past season because he never ran the QB draw play with Relf.

is exactly how it works. Coaches very rarely get credit for winning here unless it is the "new" football coach (who I happen to completely support). Stans is mud on this board in many folks' eyes, and I certainly do not always agree with some of the stuff he does or does not do. But the bottom line is our basketball coach will lose games but will never win any...at least that is the way it seems for this board. Players never lose but always win.
