What level bowl would make you happy?

Given the players we have on the team, our staff, and all the intangibles...what level bowl do you realistically think we have a chance of going to this year and what is the minimum tier bowl that you would find acceptable? I ask because the early predictions are all lower tier bowls (Liberty, BBVA Compass, etc.) Would you be satisfied with that tier bowl this year or should be only be happy with at least a mid-tier bowl such as the Chick Fil-E, Gator, Cotton, etc. I know everyone would be ecstatic with an upper tier bowl (Capital One, Outback, BCS) buty does anyone think we have a realistic shot at one.

My personal two cents. While I am happy anytime we go to a bowl this year I would not be content unless we make a mid-tier bowl. I think our schedule shapes up to give us around 8 wins with a shot at 9 (losing to Alabama, LSU, and Ark or aTm). While I would cheer just as loudly if they were in Memphis I would have in the back of my mind this season was not all that it could have been,.

<div>8-4 or better and I'm happy doesn't matter the bowl. This should amount to a mid tier bowl but there's always a chance we get screwed in bowl selection.</div><div>

1. We start off 7-0 and end up 3-2 or better in our last five.<div>
</div><div>Texas A&M, Arkansas and Ole Miss are all winnable games. Just don't think we can slip up and win at LSU or Bama, but if we do, and the chips fall right, we could fall into the Capital One or even Arkansas our way into the Sugar Bowl at 10-2/11-1. Most likely, this would put us in the Cotton Bowl.</div><div>
</div><div>2. We start out 6-1/7-0 and end up 2-3 or worse in our last five.</div><div>
</div><div>We can't get over the Auburn hump or Tennessee knocks us off. We handle A&M and Arkansas but Ole MIss gets us in the last one. This puts us in the 8-4 zone and we end up in a Music City/Gator/Chick-fil-A deal.</div><div>
</div><div>3. A disappointing 4-3 or 5-2 start and a couple late wins to get bowl eligible.</div><div>
</div><div>This is the scenario where the Liberty or Independence would probably be our destination.</div><div>
</div><div>I don't think there is a scenario other than just complete breakdown and multiple injuries that leaves us with 5 or less wins.</div><div>

Just keep going and it will eventually pay off with a couple of good recruiting classes and a good season. Schools like Alabama and LSU have one year rebuilding. School like Miss State takes four years to build up to a really good season but you have to go to bowl games during that four years. Small bowls, big bowls it doesn't matter as long as you have a 9 to 10 win season every three to four years. That is realistic at Miss State. State has been to only 16 bowl games during the 100 years plus they have been playing football. Our all time winning percentage is .483. We have won the SEC one time about two million years ago and the SEC West one time. We need to change that winning percentage and we need many winning seasons to do it. We need to keep scheduling weak ooc schedules. We need to be happy no matter the bowl. Yes I want to go to the sugar bowl and if we just keep having winning records sooner or later we will catch Alabama and LSU in a down year and have that opportunity. You never know what might happen.Let's face it Saban is starting to get old and he will not be at alabama for ever and as far as that grass eater at LSU as flacky of fans LSU hastwo poor seasons and he is gone. I think Arkansas is on their way back to beingan averageteam.

But I agree. Keep winning and going to bowls. Keep winning the bowls when you get there, and the recruits will come. When they get here, we finally catch Bama or LSU with their pants around their ankles.

I'll be disappointed with BBVA or Liberty, because we get 4 OOC wins handed to us. If we're in one of those bowls it means we went 2-6 or so in SEC play. That's not progress to me. At some point we've got to become a program of SEC wins, not 4 SunBelt wins, UK and OM.

...Mullen has been here long enough that this should be the last year MSU fans have to put up with the Liberty/Peach/Music City/Independence Bowl.

If Mullen is really building a SEC contender like he claimed when he was hired, it's time to enter the next phase.

The next phase is getting to a BCS bowl.

Since I am a MSU fan--& it's in my DNA to give a football coach 1/2 a generation to implement his plan--I'll settle with a 2nd or 3rd tier bowl this year.

But beginning next year, the pressure is on Mullen to live up to his word.

We are almost to the point where only 80% of the MSU fanbase blames Mullen's shortcomings & foibles on Croom.

By next year, we should be at the point where around 50% of the MSU fanbase blames Croom for Mullen's shortcomings & foilbles.

Once that percentage dips below 50%, Mullen is in trouble.

This is pretty much my list, except I'd move Cotton up a tier.

Is what I would expect. While I would be happy for any postseason play, it's time to take a step up. For me the keys to the season lie within the Auburn and Tennessee games.

the Peach with those others? It's already a one tier step from the Liberty/BBVA grouping to the Music City, another tothe Gator Bowl, and yet another to the Peach. A Peach berth means we probably finished 6 out of 14 teams, with at least 8 total wins.

I'll be happy with anything Peach, Gator, Cotton, etc. We may get screwed if 'Bama doesn't end up back in the NC game, but this is where we should end up.

Having to bring Prescott in early would probably pop everyone's 7-0 dreams. No doubt he's the QB of the future, but I'd hate to burn that redshirt due to an injury.
