Wow... Did NOT know that. He would have bolted for Florida when they offered, but we could have won a couple of SEC championships by then.
He Coached 2 seasons at Duke then went to FL. We would have had him 2 years instead of Felker for 5 then Jackie. We would have then hired Felker for 5 and would have missed our opportunity at Jackie.

He didn't get the Duke job until two years after his consideration for the MSU job. We would have had him for 3 seasons. If Florida had hired him at that point it would be because he had done well here. We still could have gotten Jackie in 1990 but the timing would have been tricky since he would have just resigned at A&M.
That's one Hell of a What-If scenario for sure.
