The new Rival Sons album is really good.

Take 6 - He is Christmas
A cd called "Rockin' Little Christmas"
Just picked up Sixty-Six to Timbuktu and CandleBox's debut used to rip
And if you like this band, this cd is fun. Came out in August

Volbeat
Black Stone Cherry
Tyler Childers
Sturgill Simpson

The following Ky-based, still haven't made it yet bands
Kiss Kiss Bang(BG)

And for the next week my usual rock/metal Christmas playlist with a heavy emphasis on Bowling for Soup's Merry Flippin' Christmas Vol. 1 and 2.

Been listening to a lot of Grateful Dead lately.
Be sure to check out some of Jerry's side projects. My favorites are:
Jerry Garcia Band
Old & in the Way
New Riders of the Purple Sage
Legion of Mary
Anything with Merl Sanders
Hooterroll with Howard Wales is awesome. A Jazz Funk with Jerry's influence.

The Dear Jerry tribute album is a great listen as well. When I play for friends who have never heard they are blown away.

How are the new efforts from the Black Keys and Raconteurs? Somehow I've only heard a few songs from each.

I’ve gotten in Steely Dan the last year or so. Really enjoy.

Same as when I discovered a The Band about 15 yrs ago, couldn’t believe it took me that long to find.

LOL, I have never heard of 90% of the **** listed in this thread. I am not saying it is bad music, just never heard of most of them. WTF do you find it ?

Neither are their best efforts. But both are perfectly decent rock albums (or alt rock if that’s how you label them).

If I had to choose between the two then the nod would go to The Black Keys album.

I used to be the same way a few years ago. Then I started actually playing some of the suggestions in threads like this one on the catpaws. Hated the majority of what I heard and most of the time 60+% of it is completely unlistenable to me. But I always found a song or two I liked. Then I noticed that Wildcatfaninohio & I had very similar tastes in music. So now I basically just wait till he posts a new group in one of these threads then I go listen to whatever crazy shite he posts. He’s batting about .925 which is HOF worthy.

Two of his grand slams...The Blue Stones and Radio Moscow. Had never heard of them before he posted vid clips on the catpaws. I now celebrate the entire catalogue (nod to Office Space) of both groups.

If you want new music you gotta check out songs from bands in threads like this. 1/2 of it won't be your style, another 1/4 you just won't like at all, and 1/4 will strike a note with you and make you check them out a little more. It's the way since nothing new makes it to the radio anymore and there isn't MTV to unearth stuff for us.

Oh yeah, the newest thing I have listened to is a weird jazzy rock band called Vulfpeck. They do a lot of instrumentals and some songs with words too.

Check out Tauk if you like all instrumentals. Never heard of them until I saw them open for Umphreys about 6 yrs ago. Huge fan now.

Guitar, keys, and drums. No lyrics.

I bought tickets to go see Whiskey Meyers and The Steel Woods at Renfro Valley in March so I have been listening to them. I had honestly never heard of The Steel Woods but they are pretty good. They remind me a lot of Skynyrd.

Whiskey Myers put on a great show live. Seen em twice. I’ve got tickets as well but diff venue.

Yoko Christmas Album.

If you get through this, why?

Made it to 1:05, aparrenlty she climaxed.
My thoughts are: Who in that room feels like I do about her (she is a farce to only be tolerated socially), and who amongst them actually sees this as some sort of worthy artistic expression... and of those folks, would they feel my morning constitutional and its accompanying notes are also artistic expression? B/c if so, I'm going on tour, b/c my morning **** is A LOT better than that video.

She gets a standing O.

Just shows how fake those people are.

Funny really.

I'm a huge fan, love this new album after "Turn Blue." :flush:

It reminds me of an AC/DC or ZZ Top album. The guitar riffs are kinda simplistic, generic and repetitive, but the groove is good and I catch myself humming the tunes. I like this direction for them more than the experimental, alternative sound they had been listing toward. Just be a damned blues/rock band and be damned good at it.

Also been going deep on Weezer lately. My wife got free tickets to their show in Louisville last spring and they were really good. Since then I have been listening to a ton of their stuff. They have a lot of great songs. I think they are a band that most would consider overrated, but if they dug into their catalog might come away thinking they are actually underrated.

This combine with Ric Ocaszyk of The Card dying this summer. I am listening to The Cars too and he produced Weezer's first 3 albums, which is funny because for a long time I called Weezer, The Cars of our era without even knowing this fact.
