The home of the New Orleans Saints is getting a new name.

Greg Bensel, a spokesman for the team, confirmed Monday that the Louisiana Superdome soon will be known as the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Bensel says the automaker is signing on for a 10-year naming rights deal that the team was allowed to pursue under the terms of its current lease that runs through 2025.

The deal, to be formally announced Tuesday afternoon, marks the first time the stadium is being called anything other than the Louisiana Superdome.

Details of the value of the deal have not been released.

The state has been looking into selling naming rights for the Dome for years. They should've done it years ago.

of pride and themost recognizable landmark/symbolofastate (like Missip) that doesn`t have that much to crow about. Just seems like something the state wouldn`t give up.

This one does not fall into that category, but some certainly do:

Heinz Field (but 17 the steelers)
Coors Field
Turner Field
Wrigley Field
Tropicana field ("The Trop")

where they list all the fictitious stadiums like Pepto Bismol field and Maxi Tampon Stadium (complete with red-nosed white blimp).

I think LP Field (Nashville)is a cool name. Chase Field(Phoenix) andConseco Fieldhouse (Indianapolis)work too.

Does InBev have the rights to Busch Stadium (St. Louis)? Or is it still just named afterGussie Busch?

The worst I think are Quicken Loans Arena(Cleveland), Amway Center (Orlando), and Lincoln Financial Field (Philadelphia).

Honestly... I think Lincoln Financial is probably not the worst, it just reminds me of too many sad Saturdays watching Jefferson Pilot sports. Some happy times for sure, but somesad sad times too.

judging from your initial post, one could assume you think this is some novelty. What's the point in this post, if not? A joke? If so, you failed.
