What not a 16-team football playoff?

Article says 12-team playoff is getting the most attention.


16-team playoffs would take the same amount of time (16, 8, 4, 2) so why the odd-ball measure?


All Power-5 champs, best of the Group of 5 for a possible Cinderella, then the 12 teams ranked highest by the selection committee.


It would be January Madness instead of March Madness. No one gets an advantage through a bye.

The committee wants baby steps and tv wants 4 teams in every year only, so getting 16 is very unlikely. 12 will probably be a tough sell.

Probably has alot to do with what they can work out with the bowls and how much revenue they can generate.

Cut seasons by one eliminating the give me game everyone plays. Tournament starts two weeks after conference champs are crowned. Allow time for one more game added to have a 10 team playoff format. Five P5 conference winners and highest ranked non P5 are automatically in. Other four chosen by committee...they would be paired up with winning two added to the finals of eight teams. Utilize best bowl games throughout the tournament.

I‘ve always felt a 16 team playoff played at Bowl sites could save the Bowl tradition. The 15 games could be played throughout the Bowl sites and share revenue to make everything work. Top 2 teams from each P5 Conference, top 2 G5 and some selection of last 4 in. Max out 3 from one conference. Just a thought.
