What old song would be canceled, if it was released today?

Would wipe out rock and country as we know it: no Stones, Led Zep, ZZ Top, Merle, Hank, Kiss, Cash, Willie, George T... all gone

Not an understatement. So many types of entertainment would not be made today. Just saw Chappelle’s Black White Supremacist or whatever the name is. Absolutely hilarious but could never see the light of day now

It would probably be easier to list what wouldn't be cancelled. This list would be much, much shorter. You could probably list it in a short paragraph

No way Louie Armstrong or Billie Holiday could make it today. Too much Dixie in their blood and music.

True, but her titties nearly popped out in the Material Girl video, so maybe that's got something to do with it.

you know she released an entire book of naked pictures right? and she was in "Body of Evidence".

Just from the Stones catalog:
Brown Sugar
*****
Stupid Girl
Under My Thumb
Some Girls
Little T&A
Short and Curlies
Stray Cat Blues
And many others...

Turning Japanese
Island Girl (Elton John)
Hit Me With Your Best Shot
I'm a Boy - The Who

Hell, most of Kiss, AC/DC catalogs. A bunch of rock songs would never be allowed today. And think how much great music we'd have missed out on.

But you didn't. The cancel stuff is obviously ridiculous, but so is sitting around and making a long list of songs and artists from the past who might be canceled if their music had come out in 2021.

Why would you read something that you think is stupid? There are plenty of threads on here I never click on cause I know they won’t interest me. Guess from know on I’ll just post on them anyway letting everyone know I think it’s stupid.

It's "now" btw. It's alright to just admit you and the ones that liked your goofy post live for these cancel threads. And if you guys haven't found a random cancel article for the week, you all create a thread to talk about what could be canceled. Personally, I just enjoy the handwringing by the same 15 people.

One in a Million also disses the police, so it would have a chance.

Would "Don't Stand So Close to Me" make it?

If my woke math is correct, the n word with hard r, gay slur, speaking ill of immigrants and mention of being a small town white boy cancels out the anti police part in the first verse. But only slightly.

Johnny Horton had a song called "I Hate N******"

I'm guessing it was never played over the air but I can't even imagine what the reaction would be today just for recording it.

I'm sure everyone would agree that song should be cancelled.

Edit: I just did some research and the song was recorded by Johnny Rebel, not Horton.

I just listened to it to be sure, but that isn't a hard "r". Plus, Slash is black so that makes ok, I think. I remember reading that he almost kicked Axl's *** when he first heard it, though.

This song definitely wouldn't fly today

I remember making a joke about 17 being kinda creepy in 2009 or so. Dude looks 36 in the video. Lol.

All joking about Winger aside, the opening riff to that song is pretty badass.

They caught all the crap because of Beavis and Butthead. They guys in the band are amazing musicians. Kip Winger won a Grammy a few years ago for a classical album.

Hate to burst your bubble brother but I ain’t handwringing. I read posts that I find funny and/or entertaining to me. This one meets both those criteria. And you my friend just made it better. BTW thanks for correcting my spelling in this stupid thread.

I enjoy watching you demorats twist and squirm trying to deflect from your obvious inability to justify your party's religious doctrine. Might as well own this ****, comrade. You keep voting for it.

This has been highly entertaining and hilarious. But I would also like to thank each and every one of you for planting the Walk on the Wild Side ear worm in my head. Have been walking around the office for two days now humming "do do doo, doo doo do doo doo", etc., etc.

Doesn't it make you wonder whether there are potentially great songs/artists that aren't seeing the light of day due to the current culture? You're right - we didn't miss out on some great music from the past. But who's to say we're not missing out now due to cancel culture? You don't see the danger in an arbitrary standard of what's acceptable in a free society? And, agree with the other poster - why post in a thread that you feel is ridiculous? I skip probably 98% of all threads without even opening them, especially the ones I think are ridiculous.
