I doubt mullen will let a big athletic guy waste away as the 3rd or 4th string qb (assuming newton, russell, and stegall are the top 3) when we need play makers. I think a move out to wr is in store for him. If russell is the qb and newton isnt here, then i could see him as a wr and still taking a few direct snaps per game. There could be a move to safety, although I dont know if he has ever played it. Thoughts?

If we get Newton or another good QB, Relf transfers out. He will be behind Russell next year, and if Newton comes, he will be 3rd on the depth chart. May go to Jackson St. or another school in the state.

Newton comes in, goes through spring practice, and at that point we start to put in packages where Relf is in the wildcat at QB, lines up in the slot at WR, and occasionally at RB. I also think that we're going to see Bumphis in the wildcat more next year as well. And I think that we will see Relf in for anywhere between 10-20 snaps at various positions a game.

We could do a lot of crazy plays with Relf and Newton in the game at the same time. I would like to see both in the backfield in an A-11 type shotgun formation and direct snap it to Relf and then let him run or throw, we could have Newton lateral the ball to Relf at the WR position, and then have Relf throw the ball downfield to a hopefully wide open WR like Bumphis or Berry. I saw Florida run that play against Bama in 1994 in the SEC Championship game, and I've liked it ever since. We could simply use Relf as a decoy. Line Relf up in the slot and let Newton throw the ball to him on a simple route.

I love the thought of having great athletes on our team and just letting them make plays. It's too bad that Rashad Henry hurt his ACL, because I was looking forward to having him and Vick Ballard in the backfield.

And remember Newton is 6'6" 250 or so. He could probably catch a ball or two for someone like Relf of Bumphis as well.

I'd also like to see Bumphis get some carries from the slot in addition to having the ball thrown to him.

I think it would be really cool if we lined up in the I-formation, and then ran a flea flicker on something like a second and one. That's possibly my favorite play of all time ever since we used one to beat Ole Miss in 1993 with Davis pitching the ball back to Todd Jordan, who then threw to a wide open Eric Moulds for a 50 yard TD.

what has he done besides a few good run plays at qb that makes you think he is a superior athletic talent? The guy is a taller, slower version of kodi burns: a runner who thinks he's a qb. he's not even a poor man's vince young.

unless I am mistaken, we have never seen him catch a pass so what makes everyone think he's a receiver? We have better talent at wideout even though it's young. why put him in as a decoy? why would other teams think "oh hey Relf is out there, better cover his *** for sure!" I'd rather have a legit wideout that's a true threat to catch the ball.

Unless he learns to throw a football accurately, I think he is useless to us. With Bumphis, Chris Smith, Ricco Sanders, Brandon Heavens, Wilder, Malcolm Johnson and Kevin Bolden coming in, and Leon Berry, why would we need to put Relf out there. Put Relf at TE maybe, use him as a wing back that can take end arounds maybe, but other than that he wont do anything for us. Great change of pace against Florida until they figured out that we werent gonna throw and they stacked the box and stuffed him. If he can run routes and catch, I say maybe try it. He is physical, but we dont know anything about his route running. Give him a chance, but if he cant cut it, then cut him.

Randall Cobb - very poor man's version. We have other guys that would be better than him at that job. But, given his track record he would be useful in that capacity just because the defense has to account for him.

If he could put on 15-25 pounds and learn the position, it might not be such a bad move. There's plenty of room on the depth chart at that position and he could do well at it if he put his mind to it.
