I've been at the acceptance stage that UK football isn't going to get better under Stoops, or even Mitch, since the end of last season. Let's talk this out and maybe a little therapy will help us get through this.

Acceptance. It's terminal and there's nothing to be done about it. Looking for a peaceful end, not a miracle cure. I have a knot in my gut that says they're gonna send this team to a bowl and I just want the pain to stop now, not keep on for another 6 weeks.

This team is not getting picked for a bowl. Maybe a 5 win team who came up short but we haven't won squat outside of friggin Charlotte in quite some time

People are laughing at us... Not considering us. This team and staff is a joke

Acceptance...never thought we were going to win today after the Vandy debacle. Even 21-0 I texted my dad and said " Uk up 21-0, I know they are gonna blow the lead but this is funny to see them up so much early on." And well, they did.

I was at acceptance before the opening kickoff, and just when I thought I was out... they pull me back in! Lol!

I'm to the point that I'm not sure they can field a contender....ever.
I have a disease though, UK Football fan. Is there a program I can go through to get better?

I protected myself from being brought down by uk football in the 90's after Curry . At that time it dawned on me like an epiphany that uk wouldn't amount to ish under almost any circumstance . So while I still watch the games it is in monotone and void of any emotions that allow me to feel that anything is on the line . I've been in the mode of "prove it to me" since that time , meaning I'm not buying in to hope that things will be different from year to year . I have to say I'm much more at peace with the program now that I have embraced what it will always be .

I've been a Football only fan for the last 20 years.....and a Ky Football fan since about 1969. At this point, I've concluded that we will never even be a consistent 6-6 type program. In fact, I believe Ky's ceiling is likely something like an 8-5 season once every 25 years or so. I thought Stoops might get it done, and he still may, but I don't see it coming in the near future.

For all the gains made in recruiting, we still don't have the athletes it takes to compete in the SEC.and we likely never will. Though even when we have better overall talent (vs Vandy and ul) we don't take advantage. On the way home tonight, I thought, "You'd be a lot happier if you'd just find some other interest". Maybe just put all that wasted time spent on Football into my job, my church, my family, other people.

Very disappointed...not that we lost or that we only won 5 games...I expected that, but the way we bottomed out. Both ul and Vandy should have been wins.

Oh well.

I put anger due to the fact I befuddled at many things that have happened this season.. I would have liked to put multiple answers, but I couldnt'.. It just wasn't an option. I thought it would hav ebeen a given this year that we would have won at least 6 games. I mean, Vegas had us at 6, I thought we had at LEAST 6 with a chance to surprise and got to a toilet bowl game for the 7th, but hell, that didn't even happen.
I felt my hopes crashing after the EKU game, I thought that was amazing how close it was... Even though people try to think an overtime loss isn't close.. SMH.. I am very emotional right now, hopefully I realize this season wasn't as bad as it was, but after collapses in the 2nd halves of games, I don't know how the hell I am supposed to feel.

GO CATS!!!!! STILL... GET THIS STUFF STRAIGTENED OUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

I don't feel as sorry for you. You bring it upon yourself. There are other sports out there, both college and pro. Putting all your eggs into a basket with tons of holes in it is your own fault.

Yeah, I have this disease as well. I've long since quit paying admission to see a successful season.

I feel like the U of L fans must feel every year after UK beats them in basketball.
The players are different but the results are always the same.

Kentucky football has sucked since I was a little guy (born in 1976), so it is acceptance. I have known no different. The last time we had a winning SEC season since I have been alive, I was 1 years old. 38 years of sucking makes you accept the fact we most likely will always suck. But, it doesn't stop me from watching every Saturday and being disappointed every time.

Feel sorry for those that believed in Stoops. Personally, just don't get invested in football at UK. No point. All those reports and tweets in the summer were hogwash and I will not put any stock in those individuals anymore. Pure Kool-aid drinkers.

I'm actually at a point where I've decided to search for something to replace ncaa football next fall. I'm done believing the turnaround story and refuse to follow some school I didn't attend. Maybe I'll take up shark fishing in Lake Cumberland - I'm very accustomed to disappointment so not catching one would be fine.

Never again get excited about KY football. Will enjoy 7-5, 6-6 for what it is. Mediocrity. If an occasional 8-5 slips in, whoopee! To old and tired, plus heart condition says to give up. Wife shut off TV because I was so angry and frustrated at watching Louisville game. May give up on all sports for that reason. Rocking chair and a good book I guess, but I know in the back of my mind, I will always hope for that SEC championship and run of two or three 10 or 11 win seasons. Always,
GO BIG BLUE!

I don't usually tell people to shut up, but you really are violating the point of this thread. This is a safe place to vent. Keep your criticisms to yourself.

Good point. Not now nor will I ever ask anyone for sympathy, just responding to the thread. As for sports, I'd rather watch losing college Football than winning teams in lesser sports. Will continue pulling for the Reds and uk bball when tournament time rolls around.

Maybe I should consider being a ul Football fan. At least their ad is determined to do whatever is necessary to put a winning team on the field.

I used to get very upset when we'd lose.

I remember losing to Florida on the last play in around "94" and the collapse against Florida when Lorenzen was QB.

I remember the loss to LSU on the last play after Morris had been doused with Gatorade and the loss to UofL after the storm delay.

When we'd lose those games I would remained depressed for days until I could convince myself that we'd get it together at some point.

I used to get kinda pissed when UofL fans would say stuff like "it doesn't matter what players or coaches you have because you're UK and you'll always suck".

On Friday, my brother asked me what I thought about the game and I replied "I expect to lose but will be pleasantly surprised if we win, but honestly, I really don't care".

He replied "yeah, I feel the same way".

A person can only be disappointed so many times before he becomes apathetic.

Now basketball...

When we lost to Wisconsin, I didn't get out of bed until Monday and even then I only got up because I had to go to work.

Agree. Oddly enough, that is the exact way I feel about bball. The first time I ever cried over losing a sporting event was when ohiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiio st beat KY in an NCAA tournament game in 67, 68 or so. Continued to be a bball fan only to have my heart broken every year, with the rare exception. Right or wrong, the standard for bball is a nc or failure. So I've just become apathetic, unwilling to ride the roller coaster. For Football , my standard is a bowl game. Funny how both usually disappoint.
Maybe I should be a bengals fan.....

We get our hearts broken by basketball at times, but we also get rewards such as the "14" tournament, and all those beat downs last season...

There are so many good memories with UK basketball that I couldn't even count them.

With UK football, it's all heartache with no reward.

Being a die hard UK football fan is the true definition of insanity.

Yep I'm with you guys. With Tubby I very nearly got to the level of not caring, getting used to losses. Cal has brought me back to a vulnerable state with bball. But football? Forget it, I'll never trust another coach Mitch brings in. I'll be the guy after the miracle season coming in going "Wha-? 9-3? WTF just happened?"

Congrats OP you finally have plenty of company in your pit of misery. I could sense the glee with each loss that mounted this year, and now we're all here with you.

I'm happy for you...

I have been going to UK games since 1969..I am a Basketball Letterman.I support UK in every way possible.I love UK and will die a UK fan..I get frustrated and pissed but still come back. They are just kids. They don't want to lose..The adults they are led by seem incompetent.I wish for better results.I feel like Charlie Brown when Lucy pulls the football away..
I wish I had the answers..I don't.I would never support hiring a scumbag like Petrino..Leave that to the sewer in Loserville.
Hoping for better results..We always have basketball.Coach Rupp never accepted losing.I don't either..God Bless UK..

At this point, I just don't even care. So many other things in life than to worry about a sorry sack program that thinks spending some money on window dressing and slogans will magically fix things. We won't ever have a winning program until we have an AD and board that actually wants a successful program, not just a mediocre one. So never. I know I'm not renewing tickets or spending another dime on football. They'd have to put together multiple 10 win seasons to get me back into the game.

Maybe I can go root for Western or something. Just a sad sad day for this program. Stoops had an opportunity to really make a move this year and he'll never have that chance again. All downhill from here, but at least it's not a long drop.

I feel sad for what next year will look like. Spring game will be back to the 5k or so we're used to and I doubt we'll have another sellout for years to come. Because I'd have to bet they lost a good third of the fanbase yesterday. When a guy like me hangs it up, not a good omen for the program. Next year's attendance is going to be Vandy bad. But I just have to stop caring.
