The first thing ESPN shows in their openingintro is the sound byte from the record breaking block. Then, through the last 40 minutes, they show unranked UNC get beat at home by FSU, recap 3 games twice, and an interview with Mark MCGwires brother, and I have still yet to see anything on Jarvis. You break an NCAA record and you get put behind Mark McGwires brother and a .500 UNC team. I think thats pretty ghey. They will jump all over us for throwing bottles, but when someone breaks an NCAA record they shove it in the back of their lineup. </p>

I say we all email espn about there bias opion to msstate. Jarvis breaks an all time record and gets 5 secs of coverage . The bottle thing was blown way out of proportion and espn ticked me off enough over that. I say 17 espn

big jarvis fan but gotta admit it got about as much coverage as it deserved, it's a blocked shot not a scoring record so the average viewer isn't gonna care and it's only an "all-time" record since it became official in 1985, cool achievement but not a big deal nationally

Hell, the 17in' Asian kid that won the hot dog eating contest in 2008 was given more coverage. 17 ESPN.

and most of the country still doesn't care so espn isn't gonna waste airtime no matter how important it is to our fanbase

because they had 40 minutes to cover everything that happened in the world of sports today so they pick what they feel interests more people, they have baseball tonight, gameday final etc. for the in depth ****, and that hot dog eating contest probably got better ratings than your average state basketball game

Hot dog eating is not a sport, and neither is a game of Texas Hold 'Em. The breaking of an all-time NCAA record is noteworthy and deserves more coverage than it got tonight, no matter what college the player plays for. They are the all mighty ESPN, they can make time for anything.

yeah and people watched the **** out of it, so as an espn exec i would assume my demographic are !#@#'n morons and program accordingly, so when the generic highlight show comes on you give them **** they're familiar with (lakers, carolina, steroids in baseball, team usa) and save the actual stories for the sport specific programs, cgf in this instance which went into the record in depth

It would have made sense to give more than 5 seconds to the breaking of an all-time NCAA record though. Steroids in baseball is nothing new and I assure you there are more college basketball fans than there are Laker fans.

why is a minute or so on sportscenter more important to you than an entire segment on the show thats actually about college basketball cause thats the show that all of those die hard college basketball fans you mentioned are gonna get their news from

In my opinion, it's deserving of both. If you feel the coverage was adequate, fine. When in Rome.

but you fail to realize that just because its important to us that doesn't mean that its actually important, a kid most people have never heard of from a school they know almost nothing about breaking an even more obscure guy's record for something thats only been on the books since 1985 isn't going to interest the casual sports fan so you put it on the basketball show, bottom line if Jarvis had gone to a school we weren't fans of, most of us wouldn't give a **** either so don't act offended by the lack of coverage it got on sportscenter just because you wanted to watch them talk about state

If Jarvis was at UNC then ESPN would've led in with the story. See Tyler Hansborough who was on ESPN evertime he sneezed.

we would have also accepted be on the Yankees/Lakers/Cowboys or play in the Big East and do pretty much anything. UNC's suckage is discussion-worthy, though.
I think if we had won a few (2 or so) more games and were actually ranked, this would have been a highlight.

And now, after actually watching SportsCenter, we are #3 on the top 10 plays. Were you expecting an actual highlight segment?

have yall noticed how sporscenter has been doing those bubble watch analysis segments, where they show highlights of bubble teams games then discuss whether they should be in the tourny or not? we have been a high bubble team for awhile now, they havent put us on that segment yet. i saw earlier they put minnesota on that segment, a 16-11 team, 7-8 in big ten play, team.
