Pussies. I once had a colonoscopy stone cold sober, no sedation whatsoever, just cause I wanted to see what the inside of my own colon looked like -- and, I have to say, my colon was goddamned spectacular.

The prep still sucked though.

Some people can do that. Others, no way. I'm in the "others" category there. The insufflation alone is enough to make me writhe in pain.

Which one of you codgers care to tell me what to expect from a colonoscopy? Got one scheduled in 36 hours.

Had a digital rectal exam at the er last night, which felt like dumbo giving me a handshake from behind, so I'm hoping the colonoscopy isn't worse.

Gotta love it when your doctor calls your CT scan results "impressive" and wants to do the colonoscopy on the spot.
You alright bro? Sounds serious. Will be thinking of you.

Had you had any issues before the last couple of months?

Do you have any extra-intestinal issues such as arthritis, joint pains, eye inflammation (uveitis), skin issues, mouth ulcers (canker sores)?

Have you been on antibiotics lately? If so, which ones and for how long?

Not really. When I was younger I would get debilitating cramping from soda at times and some foods, but I cut back on soda and haven't noticed it in 15 years.

I've had some what i would call salt watery burning eye misting but it hasn't been chronic. I've noticed some mouth sores the past few days, but i chalked it up to dry mouth from being dehydrated.

No antibiotics.

Mouth sores are correlated with IBD, meaning if you have IBD, you're more likely to get mouth sores. Of course, many people with mouth sores *don't* have IBD, any many people with IBD don't have mouth sores. But they're more likely in people with IBD, especially UC if I remember correctly.

I asked about antibiotics because they increase the risk of a flareup of pre-existing IBD, and they can be the trigger that starts IBD in those who are genetically susceptible to developing it. They are also frequently given in ER/Urgent Care settings when a person presents with diarrhea, especially with blood, because it's usually assumed to be infectious colitis/enteritis. But if it's actually not infectious and is IBD instead, some antibiotics can make it worse.

The colonoscopy should tell you and the docs a lot. Keep us informed what they find.

Where are you located? Who is doing the scope (what doctor)?

My mom has something but she doesn't really volunteer details (I didn't really ask until this came on). She just said it was IBS.

Not regularly. Not at all for at least 4 months.

The last 4-5 days there have been traces. Ok... Yes, guys. I've had bloody poo. It's tough to talk about.

I think I remember him saying streaking. I was out of it and I don't have it in front of me.

That sucks, man. Sorry you are having serious issues like you are. I'm not much older than you (36) and have dealt with stomach issues most of my adult life. However, mine cleared up mostly once I learned to deal better with stress. Hope you come out with a clean bill of health or at worst something not to serious and manageable.

I didn't mind the 'shitting all night' part as much as the 'no eating anything for 24 hours' part.

'Twas awful. Procedure was a breeze.

Nurse woke me up and said I may feel drunk as a monkey. I told her I have been drunk as monkey numerous times and this wasn't one of them.

Promptly ate a bunch of food, grabbed a 6 pack, and played 18 holes of golf.

Just after your doctor had made a hole-in-one. Amazing coincidence.

ER doctor said it was probably crohns or colitis. GI didn't disagree. But GI said one of the prescriptions ER gave me under the right/wrong conditions could cause something called "mega colon" ( if I remember what he said correctly) which could kill me. How awful would it be to die from mega colon?
I have been called a big ******* before but I hope not to die from it

I have had occasional attacks over the past 15 years they've never figured out. Starts out as a lot of gas, abdomen sounds like WWIII, then non stop diarrhea for hours, then non stop vomiting and wretching for 2 or3 minutes at a time over a couple of hours. Taken by ambulance once, other times I walked into the ER and was given IV to rehydrate. Once was admitted and kept for three days. Had a C Diff infection that time. It kicks my butt
