tourney here in madison. MSU finishes 14th out of 15 teams, only beating jackson state. Florida wins overall, Ole Miss 2nd, Southern Miss 5th. They seem to have some problems over the last couple of years. Doesnt bode well for Clay Holman.

everything will suck until the end of May, then we can put this teeth-grinding year behind us and hope again.

The best players on campus (PGM majors) aren't allowed to be on the team. I'm not 100% sure about this, if I'm wrong, call me a liar.

The PGM students, for the most part, are just average players. 99.9% couldn't make the team in an open tryout...leaving a tenth of a percent for an occasional Sean Farren or Eric Johnson or for you older folks, David Calhoun.

No chance, especially the recent classes.

The quality of play started to seriously decline earlier in the decade. Seriously decline.

There were kids that didnt break 90...ever. They were soon gone, but still. You had to be at worst a 6hdcp to get into the program, so lots of handicap fudging went on.

A handful were damn good and could compete with and score better than some of the golf team, but that sort of playerwas the exception and not the norm.

99.9% couldntmake a decent high school team. Unfortunately I graduatedfrom the PGM program andworked at the course throughout college, so watching some of these kids thinking they were the nextTiger Woods was brutally painful, yet a good source of comic relief for a good 5 years. My favorite was watching them trying to pass the PAT, only the easiest playing test to pass known, and some of them could not pass it....ever.

However, I would say therewere about 2-3while I was there that shouldve been on the golf team because they were clearly better than the team. Of course, this was during the timeright before and just when Homan got there. They were terribleduring those years.

I saw AC a few years back when I was still working in the golf biz, I had to go to Atlanta to help with a booth at the then Bellsouth Classic.

Now, he is helping PGM students fail the PAT at Campbell University.

The guy never lacked for confidence, even if it wasnt justified. He was a character though.

and that is an understatement. The team is Extremely young.Theyhave 1 junior and the rest are sophomores and freshman. All the young guys will learn a lot this year playing in tournamentson thecollege level and in a very good golf conference.

Clay is great coach and will get good players in. Recruiting golfers to Starkville is not an easy thing to do and Mississippi is not exactly a hot bed for junior golfers.

As far as the PGM, there were some good players back in day. One of which was one the team with me.

If you are in the PGMand or looking to get into the golf business and cant pass your PAT on the first try, you need to think about another career. If you cant shoot 77-77 on a course playing 6,500 yards with the pins in the middle of the green, hang it up.
