So, a group that prides itself on barring disrimination based on sexual discrimination is now defending themselves by saying they, as a private organization, have the freedom to associate with who they please.

Which is it boys?

Well as a private org they can allow people in or exclude them based on any criteria they want.

But for a group that's against discrimination based on sexual preference it makes them look REALLY bad. They're also kind of missing the point....how many straight guys do you know that would willingly play in an openly gay softball tournament? Having all-straight teams in your tournament just furthers the two groups getting along better. I kind of thought that's what they were about.

They are just like us straight guys, just trying to get laid and they know that there is no way in hell that would happen with an all straight team. I just don't think some truely straight guy can drink enough beer to agree to that.

Absolutely.. .I have no problem with that conceptually either - although, these leagues probably play at publicly funded softball facilities, there's probably an issue of whether they can legally discriminate or not. I'm not an attorney, I'm sure that issue gets hairy.

My issue begins with my assumption that their alliance doesn't fight discrimination issues in a strictly public context. I'm betting they stick their noses in anybody's business when even a murmur of homosexual discrimation is alleged - regardless of whether it was from a private group or not. That's when you change from having a legit point, to looking like a whiny hypocrite. I'm making assumptions though, maybe they really only care about legal rights for homosexuals outside of private organizations? If so, I retract the hypocrite label.

Can't argue with that.
