I didn't get to watch the first TD pass live, so I pulled it up on the link provided on this board.

Oddly, the TV coverage focused VERY closely on Stephen Johnson, before the first play/pass to G. Johnson, for like 15 to 20 seconds.

His head/helmet filled the whole screen.

He surveyed the defense, smiled, then I swear he giggles a little, then he shakes his head a little from side-to-side, as though thinking, "Gran called it right, and I'm about to throw a touchdown pass on the first play of the game."

Maybe somebody with more tech. experience than I have can pull up the clip.

I noticed that too. when I saw it live I didn't think much of it until he threw "The Pass". Not sure if you noticed but I believe he did it again right before he threw "The Pass" the second time. Go Cats!

I noticed this as well, gotta love this kid!!
If he can add some good weight in the off season and come back stronger and a little quicker he'll be awesome next season!

And on Sunday, after the game, I sat in a restaurant at a table next to a couple of brothers, in their 70's, who are huge Cat fans. We talked the usual . . . . and as our conversation trailed off, and the brothers began speaking to one another, instead of to me, one I SWEAR says to the other, "And I really like the Smith kid."

I saw the same thing, unusual because he is usually poker-faced. Any chance Lamar Thomas helped plan that play based on his knowledge of their coverage schemes?

I just watched it, again, and he indeed said, "I Love This ****" unless my lip reading skills are off.

UK (or other capitalists with a hair on their arse) need to make this a poster, with the Shot of Johnson!

I went back and watched it, and your right. Hadn't noticed that live. I'm pretty sure I saw it said somewhere that it was decided 3 days earlier that would be the first play. I guess SJ walked up the line and saw exactly what he hoped to see. That play was huge. I know this fan went from thinking we'd be down by 28 after 1 to thinking who knows we just might have a game.

He seemed pretty awesome at times THIS season. He lacked consistency at times, but that is to be expected with the increased competition he faced coming from a small JUCO and then again next when he entered the Southeastern Conference portion of the schedule . I bet he takes a big leap forward next year now that his confidence level has most assuredly increased with his onfield success this season. I cannot imagine anyone beating him out as the starter next season if he continues to grow in confidence and ability.

The guy has ice water in his mother effin veins, never seems to get rattled. I hope he can put some weight on in the off season and work on his intermediate throws, he should have a huge year next season.

Gran drew that first play up last Wednesday, and Johnson immediately saw the coverage and thought "TD Pass coming up", he did a tremendous job sliding to his left to get pass off, as our RG and Boom whiffed on a DT who was closing in for a sack.....

This......and he seems to have a great rapport with the rest of the team which is HUUUUGE!!

Folks, there's something special about SJ.

He's got a subtle kind of coolness and quiet confidence that I haven't seen around the football program for a while.

A real Steven Seagal type of vibe. **** was going south and SJ just kind of glided in, calmly took control of the situation, and saved the day.

Definitely caught the smile, and a nod to the right. He did say something to himself, but my lipreading skills are not as good as some on this board. All in all a very confident demeanor as he looked over the defense!!!

Although I'm not going to say that he didn't say that because of the playcall/coverage situation but I think it was more along the line of -

ul had just scored, the home crowd was going nuts, he looked from one side to the other and took in the entire situation - where we've been, where we're going and the weight of the moment. Then he smiled and said what he said.

I noticed his smile while watching live, but at that time I was sure his thought was "yep, we're f@cked."
