I honestly don't know at this point. Just got an extension through 2022. Word is that Capiluto loves him. Basketball is rolling (which is 90% of it). The only way he leaves in the next decade or so is if he decides to step down or go on a mission trip. Our fans will be lulled to sleep unless basketball starts doing poorly and even then they'll give him another shot at hiring a bball coach. He's here for another decade at the very least and our fans won't do a single thing about it, especially once basketball starts.

Imagine the outrage any other fan base would have to "lock up" a coach because of "solid" recruiting classes. No on field successes per se just recruiting. Barnhart made one of the worst deals based on recruiting alone what incompetence....

and did it in the middle of a season when there was no way other schools were showing any interest yet. if he'd just been patient until end of season he might have seen the horrendous finish to the year, the difficult portion, and been a bit smarter about it. naw, let's go ahead and get it out of the way before basketball starts. what. a. dumbass.

What has Mitch done to merit that new extension he just got? How does he still have a job? Here is what he has screwed up since being here.

  • Outsourced the hire of BCG to a search firm
  • Hired Joker
  • Hired Stoops when it seemed like any other school was interviewing him
  • Spent the first part of the presser apologizing for hiring Cal
  • Ruined the parking situation at CWS angering many long time season ticket holders
  • Brought in those god awful tailgate trailers or whatever the hell they are.
  • Gave Matthew Mitchell an insane contract and now his program is in shambles. But it's ok he can dance. o_O
And his apologists will point to basketball but he doesn't even run basketball, that is all Peevy. I don't trust Mitch to make another football hire.

No way in hell Barnhart gets fired over the football team losing games. The basketball program is in great shape. Not that fans care, but the minor sports are in good shape. UK athletics is in GREAT fiscal shape. Lucky for Mitch, UK football is going to generate millions with our without fans coming to the stadium. Hey, maybe this is why he took 6K seats out (LOL)!!

One positive thought (I guess). UK athletics generates over $100 million a year in revenues. Buying Stoops out at the end of the season would be brutally expensive, but UK could afford it. I can't see it happening, but you never know.

I dont agree that Mitch is safe. The fans will dictate booster activity, and the boosters will dictate the moves. Mitch is not safe right now and he knows it. My guess is Mitch decides to move on before he's fired. If not, he's a POS that stays in a position even though the people want him gone. No one with an ounce of integrity stays in a position like that.

Mitch is getting a lot of backlash right now. He may shock everyone and fire stoops. Who knows who the man would hire to replace him though.

Mitch Barnhart... Can't stand to listen to him... I felt a little more stupid every time I heard him speak... So I quit listening to him.... Lo and behold I got smarter, gave up my season tickets after spending thousands of $$$ over the years... I feel like I hit the lotto............ Remember Mitch saying "if you wanna be SEC, ya gotta pay SEC"... Hows that working out?......

oh he called him that for a lot more reasons than two god awful hires. and yes he does support UK. UK is a school, Mitch is not UK you half wit.

True on both counts. As long as the UK student athletes maintain a solid overall GPA, as long as the UKAA keeps sending money to the UK operating budget, with little to no negative publicity, MB has relatively solid job security.

About the only unlikely scenario where things could get interesting would be for some heavy hitters on the academic side of things to tell Eli that their continued support of UK would be contingent on making a change in the UK AD. For example, a month or so ago a couple gave $10MM to UK for the business school I believe it was (not gonna look it up). God bless them for their support of UK, but I seriously doubt if the state of the FB program entered into their mind when making the donation.

Basically, one or more heavy hitters would probably have to buy out MB's contract. One other option would be to contact sympathetic members of the UK BOT to try to force a change.

MB is a decent human being, but his record of hiring and administration of the UK Ath Dept is a mixed bag at best. All I know is that the football program is a mess of Barnhart's creation, and I'm not sure what the path to resolve it is.

A start would be to boycott all of our games. We spent a ton of money for an expected return on investment. It's the strongest message we can send at this point.

Big money boosters will have to stop paying to get rid of Mitch. And that won't happen because of basketball tradition.

There's got to be to it than that. If that was the case, every AD would have the best job security in the nation.

Besides, Mitch doesn't do anything with the basketball program.

The boosters have to turn against him and push him out is what I am saying. The UK board loves him and they Cal era in basketball is blinding a lot of people to his ineptitude.

It will have to hit UK in the pocketbook and be directly related to Mitch before he goes.

It has happened at several other schools with coaches and ADs. The boosters have to either threaten to take away money, or actually do it.

Thing is, at UK a lot of our boosters are older, basketball-only types. As long as we are on top in hoops, they aren't too worried.

Quit Buying tickets to Basketball and Football ! Stay Home , Keep the seats empty ! State it publicly until Barnhart is removed , if the Fans will stay Home ! Then it will happen !

While MB is getting severe criticism on this board, overall, he has been a good AD for UK. His record of selecting football coaches has been more negative than positive. I appreciate that he tried and came very close to landing Bill Parcells and he made a great decision in hiring Coach Brooks. He let his friendship with Joker and Joker's years of loyalty to UK impact his decision to encourage Coach Brooks to retire. While Mark Stoops is dismal as a head coach and quite frankly, not even an adequate DC, he is a great salesperson. I believe it was his sales skills that motivated MB and the Board to finally step up the investment in the football program. There is no question that the $12 million buyout should disqualify MB from selecting the next UK football coach. A search committee of real football minds, such as Howard Schellenberger, Tim Couch and other ex UK football players, should be formed to select the candidates for consideration.

I attended UK, I did my part. I was in the dam gym when Gillespie first came out and spoke. I missed class for that. So I don't give a dam what you think, go kiss Mitch's *** clown.

And this fall when I attend basketball games, I will cheer my *** off while holding a fire Mitch sign inside Rupp.

Put the thought of him hiring Joker & Stoops out of your mind for a minute..... Considering all that the UK basketball program has to offer & for an A.D. at this school to go out & hire Billy Gillispie. What else needs to be said. The hiring of Gillispie has got to be one of the worst hires in the history of college athletics.
