What worries you about MVB going forward as our starting QB?...

I just don't know how you can find fault with a true freshman QB. Everything he does is like a plus. The negatives - you hope are fixed by next season. This is the best time for him - to me - he can't really do no wrong because as I said - I just chalk it up to inexperience to anything that's bad.

I will say he gets an inordinate number of balls batted in the air/tipped at the line. The other stuff (knowing when to handoff/pull, reading defenses, etc) should all improve with experience.

Not sure it’s about him, but the position in general is a bit chaotic between Kamario Taylor, MVB and Shapen.

He has a turnstile OL that is at the bottom of the SEC in sacks allowed. He’s lucky he hasn’t been injured. I am glad that he sucked at Tennessee, he would be a great fit there.

He can hold the ball too long and/or go backwards or sideways in the pocket when maybe he should step up.

But yeah, that's the inexperience. He'll figure it out.

That's all I've got. If he progresses each year, he may be our best ever.

Very good observations by all. What he needs is a better offensive line. All the other stuff is coachable for a true freshman.
Very athletic kid put in by an injury and very tough situation. But he will be better from playing against 3 top 10 teams.

Even NFL QBs have this problem. Peyton Manning threw the ball away if his first couple of options weren't open, more QBs need to do this. Obviously Kermit the Frog in KC, etc., can make big plays by holding on the ball too long, but most QBs don't.

The only thing about OL, is that it doesn’t appear to be a quick fix using the portal. You have to develop a good OL. DL you can fix in the portal.

Nothing really worries me. With a viable OL, he's much better. He's still got things to learn and needs the weight room but that's it. Kid is a star!

I only have one real worry: whether he plays for Mississippi State next year or not. It is not like we have not lost players in the past after they started showing some promise.
I’ve heard some disturbing news on that front. Apparently he’s getting attention from some big time programs.

He’s not good on the quick passes/hot reads, especially early in the game. I chalk that up to inexperience. But he has a really strong arm and can really zip it in there when he needs to. His deep ball is about as good as I’ve seen at State.

There’s not many deficiencies in his game that can’t be fixed with coaching, experience and a decent OL.

1731385663329.png1731385807347.png That he is really Mike Tyson's son and he will bite Jaxson Dart's ear off next Egg Bowl. Seriously, MVB has that constant Tysonesque intense stare.

The same could be said of every SEC team. Name one SEC program who hasn’t lost a promising scratch your head player to the portal? As easy as it is to be negative and it may prove to be true. It’s amazing how so many loose optics of how much transition this program has had to deal with over the last year. I will save my options for next season when there is some form of stability vs Monday morning qb’s knee jerk reactions.

What is most concerning is how much NIL and attention he is garnishing from the women's soccer team.

Why would he not if he got a bigger offer from a prominent school? That's the way of the world of college football now
He turned down Oregon, to come here already. You know, #1 Oregon. He's tight with Lebby.

Interesting I have heard the opposite and that’s he’s locked in and has no interest in transferring. But shocker you being negative about a player. I’m calling BS you have heard anything especially the fact you state you didn’t ask where….
It’s a damn disease on this board to be overly negative.

Being tight w/ Lebby is one thing. But turning down big money from another program that has seen him play now, AND, since we suck on most every front........He doesn't stay just because he is "tight with Lebby" after seeing this team play

That’s about the best summary that I could give as well. If we’re being honest, he’s got a lot to work on. He has the worst completion % of any QB in the conference and the 2nd worst QB rating, only ahead of the UK guy. Subjectively, he’s also missing some throws that he simply has to complete, and we haven’t really been getting much benefit from his running ability.

That said, he’s a true freshman that’s played an SEC gauntlet, his O line is not helping him at all, and all the issues I mentioned above can be fixed with time if Lebby can somehow figure the O line situation out. He’s shown flashes of brilliance in every game, and that’s all I can ask at this point

I would put MVB in the mold of Dak and Kamario in the mold of Lamar in style of play not caliber of player. MVB seems to be heavy in the feet when scrambling but will be an accurate thrower. Kamario seems to be able to make some Sportscenter type plays escaping and gaining 30 yards on any given play but may miss by 10 yards on a throw. I doubt we have both for the long haul, so hopefully we get KT in here and the coaches pick the right one.

How much another team will pay him next year!***
Kinda sarkasterics but not really, I'm worried
Was told by an Ole Miss fan yesterday the word is that that MVB would end up in Michigan next year. I'm sure this was being circulated as a talking point in Oxford on Saturday since he went to the game.

Not being negative, just realistic. I have no idea what Van Buren is going to do. I hope he stays here, and I think there's at least a 50% chance he does. But they guy I was talking to is a good friend who talks to a lot of people at a lot of different schools. He wouldn't be bullsh*tting me about this.
