What would it take for you to want Stansbury back?

For those of you ready for a coaching change, what, if anything would this year's team need to accomplish in order for you to think Stans deserves to be back? NCAA bid? SECCG appearance? SECCG win? 2nd-round win in NCAA's? Sweet 16? Elite 8? Final Four? CG? Anything?

As I have said, we can't fire a coach for taking us to the tourney. I just wouldn't give him an extension.

If we get to the Sweet 16, I would give him a 1 year extension to his contract.

The fan in me is ready for a new direction regardless but if I was AD - the above is what I would do.

The fan in me needs to see a Sweet 16 to want to keep him. But I know we'd be idiots if we fire himif he makes the tournament (not counting if we lose a play-in game).

IIRC, he did not get an extension last year. Does that mean after this season, he has 2 left on the contract?

Surely his buyout would be low - and we can expect vultures to swoop in and take away our outstanding coach that ornery fans are simply tired of seeing.

But I do agree with DS- you really cant fire him if he makes the NCAA Tourney- unless we have another incident in New Orleans or something once again showing his lack of control.

The best thing he could do for everyone is go out a winner after this season.

We struggle to get a good seed in the tournament and we end up losing in the first or second game. It is the same song and dance. If we were known for being a hard nosed, discplined, and well coached team then I probably would live with it much longer without distaste.

If I was the AD though, once in the tournament he has a job the following year. And like DS, getting in and losing the first game would not equate to a contract extension. Only a Sweet 16 or better would allow for that to take place.

The recognition by the national media of our team being dysfunctional is a reflection on the coaching staff alone. All of the coaches deal with prima donnas and wanna be NBA stars. But ours just don't handle it very well.Although, Rickcan overcome that by winning. Hell, I'd laugh any time someone said to me "yeah, you guys go to the Sweet 16 or better every year but you are so dysfunctional." Other than laughter, I'd say "who gives a ****. we win a lot."

in Mississippi's public employees retirement system This is Stansbury's 22nd year. That's going to play a role in any decision he makes.

I'd love to see them have the integrity to admit it. I wouldnt and with good reason. We as a school cannot expect better than a one game shot at the overall prize.

Winning it would pretty much guarantee his ability to retire at MSU.

showed me something vs Arkansas. They finally stopped playing the walk the ball up the court and burn the first 25 seconds of the shot-clock basketball. If they continue to play relaxed free flowing basketball and make a good showing in the SEC tourney and NCAA I'll be fine with Stansbury coming back. Also want to see atleast 2 of these 3 in Maroon next year, Moultrie, Sidney, Pollard.

However, if he makes the NCAA its going to be hard to justify running him off.Further, any objective fan will realize that it is going to be difficult to match his record of accomplishment at MSU. As either an assistant or head coach he has been a part of the most successful run of basketball in our school's history.

I don't really want to see Stansbury gone. But what I'd like to see is the hiring of as assistant who can compensate for his in-game coaching weaknesses.

Why don't you see that happening in basketball like it happens in football?

How many players have you heard lately say they don't respect Stansbury? In almost every instance where youhave spouted this crap it has been refuted. Also, many of our players have helped us recruit new players. That doesn't sound like lack of respect. I think your theory is if I throw enough **** on the wall, some of it will stick. If the guy gets to the NCAA most every year he is successful at MSU. One of these times we will get to the Sweet Sixteen and then that won't be enough for you. If we get to the finals of the SEC tourney and get screwed again to let KY win it, that won't count either . If we get to the final Four it won't even be a discussion but I have no doubt your obsession will continue.

in their management as there are so many kids and aspects to the game.

Basketball can be micromanaged, but Stansbury's number two failure behind not being that good with strategy is that he's also pretty poor at choosing someone other than himself to delegate that responsibility to.

I dont know why either. He knows one thing: If he falls too far below expectations with this talent, his rooting section becomes too small to have an effect.

And I aint talkin about the rowdies.

If he does that, I'm good for 2-3 more seasons. Even though I'm ready for a new direction, if we make the NCAAT and we bow out early, I don't think there's any way possible you could fire the guy. There are very few programs that could get away with firing their HC after making the NCAAT and MSU isn't one of them. Firing a successful head coach after making it to the post-season would put you behind the 8-ball in hiring a quality coach to replace him. What great HC candidate is going to want to coach at MSU knowing the last guy got canned after getting his team to the tournament?

I'd say an Elite Eight appearance would give him a pass from me, and a Final Four appearance would have me actually wanting him back... short of that, I have no problem showing him the door. There's too much talent on this team to settle for anything less.**

5% the ******** he spouted at press conferences....

65% the fact that he had #4 preseason team in the country that took mere days to **** the bed in South Carolina in a game he failed to use a primary weapon in McCluster.

Whatever faith UM had in him began to die that night and was buried in Starkville in November.

Stansbury on the other hand has had few seasons where he embarassed the msu fanbase like Nutt did, but he's failed to make the final four with at least one team that had the talent to be there and now he's working on number two.

His press conferfences are a close rival to Nutts with the whole "we are underdogs to the bottomfeeders in the conference"

I'd say he could be sent packing this year, but it will likely take a loss to Georgia.

Then next year, it will only take missing the NCAA's again and he'd be gone with no crash and burn necessary. Stansbury has decended at a slower rate than has Nutt, but the wreckage will be simlar.

For me, he must make the tournament. One thing to note is that if we lose a play in game as a 12 seed, I do not consider that "making" the tournament.

Not to get off point, but Nutt never had the #4 preseason team in the country. In any event, the 2009 season was ok by OM standards. No one was calling for his job there. It was the consecutive "who gives a f" seasons. But we digress. You need a media and on the court implosion a al Nutt last year to take our Stans. From what I've read here about the prospects for next year, it could be in the cards.

that won to get in, not one that 'backed' in by losing and I wouldnt be able to argue. The tournament should have teams on the rise rather than teams falling like a brick.

If he barely misses, he deserves another year. He's still 21-10 (21-11 at that point). Selection committee is not scared to @+!% us for sure, see 2010.

Dee told numerous folks after the game he meant no disrespect. Of course you will run with anything you can to run down our coach. If that is the best you can come up with it shows how full of **** you are.

quit being **%!*+%$ and trying to make this about me.

ESPN called us a dumpster fire and heartless
The Sporting News called us the most dysfunctional team in the NCAA

Stansbury has supposedly accomplished all this great ****- yet has no conference Coach of the Year trophy...if it's so damn hard to win at State- he would have gotten one. Ask Sylvester Crooms
