What would the pack think if we hired Buddy Stephens as OC?

No one is talking about him, and I'm not sure why. His teams put up a **** ton of points. He also knows a ton of hs coaches across the nation due to him coaching one of the top JUCOs year after year.

I don't think a lot of our fans would be thrilled with the hire, but I think it would be solid.

I like Stephens a lot more than some coach than a college friend of Mullen's or a guy that was a GA under him at Utah or Bowling Green.

Yeah I'd be all for it. Would he leave JUCO head coach to be OC? Surely it will double his salary right? I figured he's around $100-125 K at EMCC? We would double that.

Doubt he would help recruiting any in the Juco ranks... After beating coaches asses but 50+ points all the time, doubt he has a lot of friends in those ranks. But he would probably be a great offensive mind to have on staff

I don't really know who he is, and too lazy to google at the moment. Based on previous discussions, I assume he's the HC at Scooba.

We might want to look into the OC at Southern Illinois or Bowling Green. SIU put up a lot of points this year and had a good team. I realize that the conference doesn't play defense at all, but he might still be pretty good. And if Dan knows the BG guy (it's been a while since Dan was there), he might be OK too. Or we could get "Hud" and let him be "coach in waiting" if Dan decides to leave (that might please about half the board).

But it should be easier to find a good OC than a HC. Glad we're not doing that again.

The Bowling Green guy went with Clawson to Wake Forest. And I'm not sure we are going to go the traditional OC route since it will still be Dan calling plays. This will shrink the coaching pool. There's no way we are pulling Hud or any other low tier D1 head coach to be our OC. Especially when he can probably make the jump as HC to a bigger program next year if he stays on the current path he is on.

Do you mean Bowling Green? The highest they scored this past year was a 58-7 win over Eastern Michigan.

No way Hud is new OC. After half the fan base calling for Dan to be fired and replaced by Hud he won't even get a look. If he was hired then the first time next season we have a close game all you would read is that Hud would have beat them by 30. No way Mullen wants that.

It doesn't even matter if Dan would or wouldn't want Hud. Hud would not leave a D1 head coaching job for an OC position any where especially with the momentum he has there.
