I agree, if we can get the defense back to where it was with Ellis we just need a servicable QB and I think Russell will end up being better than that.

Cam Newton would be a huge pickup, but I can't see our offense getting worse under T. Russell. If we could the defense to be in the top 6 in the conference, then things will really turn around...

There is a reason the the top Heisman candidates now are QB's...it's the most important spot on the field...we already have good RB's for next year Cam Newton and some decent CB's would give us a shot at 9 wins next year

Were you the Vikings GM who made the Herschel Walker trade? As much as I'd love to get Newton, there's no way he could come anywhere close to the impact of 2 shutdown corners, a good DL and a gamebreaking RB.

either Cam Newton
or
Robert Bean AND
Fred Smoot AND
Willie Blade AND
JJ Johnson

I'll take the latter.

If we had 2 shutdown corners, we beat LSU & GT, even with subpar QB play. That's not even counting the DL and RB he's talking about.

USC with their QB but without their 2 CBs, a top DL and a top RB would get their *** kicked at Ohio St. And I'll concede that in their case, losing one RB wouldn't really make that much difference because they're so deep there. But we don't have that depth.

Just like the Goat said, look at the USC example... With Newton we would be 4-1, about to be 5-1 THIS SEASON...QB position is by far the most important

those guys plus Wayne Madkin equals 10 wins. We don't have to have all world back there, just don't give it away.

give us Smoot and Bean and we're 4-1, fixing to be 5-1. And that's with Tyson Lee at the helm.

The 'defense wins championships' adage still holds true. But, I bet every team that's ever won a substantial championship largely off of a lock down defense still had a solid QB on the offensive side. Crappy QBs can singlehandedly wear their own solid defense down by interceptions and 3 and outs alone - *cough*henig*cough*.

I want both. Fortunately for us, we have a coaching staff that appears [at this point] to be competent and energetic enough to get talent on both sides of the ball.

Add those players to the team now, and we're looking at a 4-1 record. That is with the current offense and Tyson Lee at the helm. The offense has actually been productive, and we have to assume it will only get more productive with Tyler Russell running the show. With the kind of defensive additions you're talking about, and an upgrade at the QB position, I believe we have a pretty damn solid team.

and correct me if i'm wrong, but didnt Madkin need help from Wyatt, even with all the extra guys too? A really good QB makes your entire offense better, which also makes your defense better.

You can find CB's on any Miami street corner, but not QB's.

Smoot and Bean wouldnt have caused us to beat LSU, fewer TO's and a few more plays from RB and QB would have though. We held LSU down pretty well defensively.

because their backups at those positions are as good as Washington's starters for the most part. Bad QB play and turnovers cost them that game.
