What's do we have to do this season where you keep Lebby?

Nope..keep him for a couple of years…and you can fire him and everyone would do the same, even his potential replacements. As for your business, you start firing guys without giving them time to make an impact…..well. Nobody will take your job. Coaching is a business, and it isn’t a business….too much emotion involved to treat it exclusively as a business.
Yep. I agree with the argument that college football is a business and coaches should be held accountable quick.

however Mississippi State football just doesn't have that luxury. We have divorced to many coaches in to short of time frame. No coach better than Lebby is going to take this job if we win 2 or less this year. It will be a Felker:Croom Arnett inexperienced hire.

I'm hoping State jumps out 4-0 to generate some excitement and can find 1-2 sec wins from there.

I only see 1 SEC win possibility and that's the last game of the season. We're not winning at Fayetteville, AR or Columbia, MO which we have a slight possibility of making it reasonably close (like 1-2 TDs)

Should have offered Petrino a huge contract. His talent evaluation alone would save a lot of nil money.

I also wished he could have hired an experienced DC.
While I understand this thought based on last year’s results. I also think it was an interesting move adding Paul Rhodes, Mike MacIntyre and Dancy to the defensive staff. The upgrade of coaching along with the front 7 talent added from the portal should help

No, that's not a thing anymore.

We could fire Lebby in December, get a huge cash infusion and make the playoffs in 2026. Or we could not have a cash a huge cash infusion and still be bad in 2026 even if we hire a "good coach."

There is no more building a program. Until there is some kind of salary cap in place, or completely equalized salary pools across the SEC, it's primarily going to be a function of how much talent you can afford, with good or bad coaching just nudging you up or down a game or 2.
Yes. I think you give him one more year unless no improvement on the field. If we're not where we want then he let's DC go. We're following same playbook as baseball. Year 3 if no Improvement then we let him go during the season

If we KEEP Lebby is what going to set us back even worse. Keeping a bad coach is NEVER the right answer. The sooner he’s fired thd sooner the road to recovery can start. Assuming we don’t major yet another Moorhead / Arnett / Lebby hire.

ti put it in a business perspective (and it is a business). I’ve made a few bad hires to run my biggest, most important & profitable division. I had to fire a couple of them after 2 & 1 year. Then I hired a young inexperienced guy. The division had its worst year in over 30 years. I’m gonna give him another year. If the still suck then, am I going to give him a 3rd year? Of course not.
We also have to do something sooner than later. Worst case scenario is they go back to sitting out a year for transfer and we swap coaches. We need to change if we're going to before that happens and seems that may be in the cards. That being said, we'd need to pull a sitting HC so we can pull players.

Win 4-5 games with an upset in there and just be competitive in nearly every game to show some good progress to provide a little juice in recruiting and I’m happy. Schedule hopefully lightens up in 2026

There is no scenario where we would pet him go. We cant. It would be impossible to hire anyone worth a damn given our last 7-8 years and the schedule Lebby had his first two years and how little we were prepared to handle the new environment.
Lebby could go 0-12 and have a job (i dont think he will but it wont be pretty).

I don’t know about that. 2-10 might get him

This is one of the dumbest lines of thought that gets repeated on this board all the time. We fired a coach after 2 years & 2 bowl games and hired Mike Leach. You seriously think anyone on the coaching world would look at a job where they fired a coach after 2-10 3-9 & think, you kind I might be interested but they should have given him more time. Ridiculous.

I think a lot of coaches out there would like to receive an SEC salary, including the vast majority of successful G5 coaches. Do you think Jason Candle wouldn't take a huge pay raise to come to Starkville?

(In fact, why didn't we hire him instead of Lebby?)

I'm of the opinion outside of a complete disaster (i.e. 1-11, 2-10) - he at least gets year 3.

Discuss. Could be as simple as our record or some caveats thrown in. This topic is your oyster.
Look competitive and competent. Our schedule, at least from how it looks preseason, does not lend itself to assuming many wins. Some clear indication that we are coached well enough on both sides of the ball to resemble a football team is needed.

Apparently we’ve given up on football so it probably doesn't matter what he does (except collect a massive paycheck).

Minimum, no regression on record and much better D and in game decision making
