Is it the new DB coach? Is it a lack of a pass rush? We didn't get to the QB much last year either and the DB's looked much better. Where is Westry and Edwards?
NO PASS RUSH!!!!!! I do not care how good of a defensive back you are, you can not cover someone forever. Is it the new DB coach? Is it a lack of a pass rush? We didn't get to the QB much last year either and the DB's looked much better. Where is Westry and Edwards?
I don't think they are in anyway over rated. Those guys make extreme athletic plays. The problem is that they are almost always lost. It looks to me like they are all just free lancing out there rather than playing their assignments. Maybe the loss of Ansley is taking a bigger toll than we thought.
Come on. Westry, Baity, and Edwards are sophomores. These guys are going to be great players with more experience, but they are still learning. And if Kentucky can't find a pass rush, our secondary will never look good.Is it the new DB coach? Is it a lack of a pass rush? We didn't get to the QB much last year either and the DB's looked much better. Where is Westry and Edwards?
Maybe somewhat overrated. Edwards is yet to see a coverage he can't blow.
Defensive backs are only as good as the front 7. If you get no pass rush and can't stop the run then its irrelevant who's in your defensive back field.
Losing West has hurt more than originally thought, but it all starts at the LOS. When a secondary has no confidence in the front 7 stopping the run and there is no pressure on the QB, it's put them in a situation of having to think too much and anticipating having to make plays they should not have to make often.
You could put an entire All SEC secondary on this defense and even they would struggle trying to stay with their assignments as long as the current secondary has to. UK's front seven is a train wreck.
Ummm 6 ints after 3 gms leads the SEC.
What the hell do you expect op?

I agree here...it is Clinksdale vs. Ansley is the difference.I'd say the biggest difference is we lost Derrick Ansley. That guy was one of the few guys on this defensive staff that could actually COACH. Losing him really hurt us. I was and remain underwhelmed by his replacement.
Most of the INT's have been thrown right to our DB's and McClain dropped a sure fire one in week one. I'm talking about being constantly out of position, biting on the trick plays and being burned deep before the half in every game.
Yet our guys seem to be ball hawks as well.
Hopefully we are turning the corner...
I disagree with the first part. Most of those INTs were incredible plays. I don't think we have had a secondary in the past decade that would have made most of those plays. Jarmon's one handed INT on a throw that was behind him should have been a Sports Center hightlight play. Edwards also made and incredible play on a ball to deflect a pass that was really a perfect throw and should have been completed. Instead Edward's nice play batted the ball up long enough for McClain to make a diving INT just before it hit the ground. These are all world level plays. Most of the INT's have been thrown right to our DB's and McClain dropped a sure fire one in week one. I'm talking about being constantly out of position, biting on the trick plays and being burned deep before the half in every game.
