And before you say it -- yes, I am familiar with yahoo maps and mapquest, and of course google maps is the best (true dat - double true). But I think there have been some discussions in the past about places to avoid -- two-lane roads, small towns, etc.

Any advice on the best way to get there would be appreciated.

There's not a lot of choices. A couple different exits to take off 85 to get there, but they'll all get you there provided you don't show up an hour before gametime.

...but you're going to be going through the towns that you've alluded. Just be sure that you have plenty of gas in your vehicle to get to at least Montgomery when you're at, say, Cuba-- that is, of course, if you're indeed creeped out when in unfamiliar small towns.

the whole way... I guess y'all are saying to go 80, which seems much shorter anyway.

as you go through Uniontown, Alabama. Its like a whole different country for about three slow miles.

Trust me. Stick with the interstates. Go through Tuscaloosa, take the 459 bypass to 65 S all the way to Mont., then take 85 to Auburn.

The only backroad I might consider on that trip would be taking 82 from Tuscaloosa to Montgomery. Then getting on 85.

Take 82 @ Tuscaloosa or just go on to Birmingham and hit 65. Highway 80 is (or was 3 weeks ago, anyway) a 35mph speed limit for 20 miles after you get off 20/59. From there to Selma, the speed limit will randomly drop from 65 to 40 for miles at a time with no explanation or obvious reason. 20 to 459 to 65 to 85 is some extra miles, but alot less stress and on gameday, probably quicker.

Exit # 42, Wire Rd., takes you all the way onto the Auburn campus about 2 blocks from the stadium. There's even a $10 (4 years ago) pay lot at the end of the road.

The bathroom i was in did not have any TP so I had to call the guy I was riding with and get him to ask the cashier for a new roll.

About your question though. If I am driving I am taking 80 because it is quicker just look at a map. If I am telling my wife how to go I tell her to take the interstate.
Either way you are going to get there

and it is weird. Demopolis is ok town, not to weird. Everyone is right about Uniontown...... what ever you do dont stop. After Uniontown .... it is just boring. Until you get to Selma. Selma reminds me of Greenwood or Greenville. They do have two things that are a must...... first is The Old Live Oak Cemetery. A lot of Confederate soldiers are buried here and they have several big confederate statues...... it is cool... The other thing is the mexican restaurant downtown - if you pass over the civil rights bridge it is on the left ... Good stuff. Then after that is boring until you get to Montgomery, which that town sucks.

I am from Montgomery and now work in the jackson area and when I go home its much easiter to take highway 80, yes the speed limit changes a few times but they almost have it 4 laned all the way. Its not a bad drive and it s alot quicker then staying on the interstate. This is just my suggestion. I know from Jackson to Montgomery is 4-4.5 hrs and then about 45min to an hour to Auburn.
