Doubtful. Elliot wanted to be back in Columbia lolElliott was part of app states successful coaching staff back in the early 2000s.
It was the total package. He's a good talent evaluator. He's a d@mn good OL coach. He's a GREAT energy and "gel" guy. He is something you need on any staff, and he's one of the best of "those type" guys. I hope he's OL coach and AHC... OR they bring Shawn Clark (from App State, ousted HC) as OL and keep Elliott as TE/run game coordinator and hopefully AHC.I am not really sure I see anyone's attraction for Elliott as OL coach. Here or elsewhere. His OL here were ok, I guess. Not so good that we should still be talking about it nearly a decade later.

His head coaching record at Ga State wasn't that great either. At the G5 level you want to see a coach win his conference.
Refresh my memory, just how good we're his OL's here? It seems we have two very different opinions.
Elliot himself still lived in Columbia. He was only in Atlanta for the minimum amount of time he could get away with.Elliott’s family remained in Columbia when he moved to Georgia. Don’t think they are moving to NC.
May not be a destination job for a coach but I would love to live in Boone.Odd thing to me is that Dowell said he wouldn't have left USC for just any job and that there were only a handful of places he would have considered leaving for.
Maybe it's just me, but I would not put App State in the small handful of destination jobs.

Another lazy hire incoming? The articleninposted earlier made it sound like him leaving was wanted by both parties, and maybe App St was just the landing spot.
Fwiw
I have family up there - beautiful area!!May not be a destination job for a coach but I would love to live in Boone.
Sounds like "classic coach speak", I would not put to much stock in that statement, LOLOdd thing to me is that Dowell said he wouldn't have left USC for just any job and that there were only a handful of places he would have considered leaving for.

Could we do better?Shula, on ataff as an analyst already.
A better hire on paper than Satterfieldnor Loggains.

Is it official? Well, promoting from within is definitely much easier than hiring proven college OCs outside your program.I think we could, but part of that is me thinking we could shift philosophies.
We shouldn't need to settle at all though. We're a hot name, with an exciting qb, and we've got money.
Its too late to discuss if Shula is "settling", since it's official now.

Yes, might not have been officially announced but it is officially happening. Is it official? Well, promoting from within is definitely much easier than hiring proven college OCs outside your program.
Mike Shula has proven himself quite extensively as an OC and a QB coach. On paper he's easily the most "qualified" OC we've ever had besides Steve Spurrier himself. Is it official? Well, promoting from within is definitely much easier than hiring proven college OCs outside your program.
I don't know about extensively, he was an OC in the NFL a couple of times but ended up an offensive analyst for Buffalo. But, hey, I'm just along for the ride and enjoying this season.Mike Shula has proven himself quite extensively as an OC and a QB coach. He's spent 11 years as an NFL offensive coordinator, an additional 11 as an NFL quarterback coach (not double counting OC/QB duties), another 10 seasons as an NFL assistant coach for other offensive positions / duties, head coach at Alabama (fired, yes), and played QB at Alabama and in the NFL. May have learned a thing or two from his dad along the way.I don't know about extensively, he was an OC in the NFL a couple of times but ended up an offensive analyst for Buffalo. I'm just saying, on paper... he's the most qualified offensive coordinator we've ever hired. There's probably not a close second. Again, not counting Spurrier's double duty as HC/OC.
Yes, he does. DL wanted him to go with him to be his OC.But...did he really want to be here? That seems to be the most important qualification for being a coach at Carolina.
