Of woodruff starting Sunday if he's impressive tomorrow night? Really want lindgren, graveman, and woodruff as weekend starters. We need Ross Mitchell available on Friday nights, which he can't be now bc of Evan Mitchell. Had Ross been available Friday last week, I believe he comes in place of girodo and we win thus win the series.

Needs to be Lindgren, Woodruff and Graveman in that order (assuming Woodruff gets his head back). Graveman is too good as a 3rd option to move him to another day. He just fits the Sunday role too well. I was definitely wrong about his performance against LSU.

I agree. I want the order the same; but since woodruff is pitching tomorrow night, I'd be happy to see him pitch Sunday this week. If he pitches well, move him to Saturday against Arkansas.

It totally depends on two things

1. How Woodruff looks against Alcorn.

2. How many pitches he throws against Alcorn. If Woodruff throws 100 pitches, we won't use him this weekend unless it's in relief, and even that would be a stretch.

But, if he throws 50 pitches and looks sharp against Alcorn, I would say it's possible that he could start Sunday against UK. The other thing that we have to keep in mind here is that Kentucky has the smallest park in the SEC, and it may be a good idea to just wait until the Arkansas series to make sure Woodruff's confidence stays up. I'd hate for a couple of cheap home runs to ruin his confidence.

The bonus to Woodruff being in the rotation is it would allow us to move Evan Mitchell to the bullpen where I think he can be really good in short 1-2 inning stints.

If Woodruff looks OK- but not sharp, I would expect him to start against Austin Peay on Tuesday.

I saw part of Woodruff's bullpen session on Sunday and he looked pretty good- but I didn't see him throw from the stretch and it was only to a right handed cutout. The real test comes tomorrow.

I'm in the minority I guess on this one, but I see no way in hell Woodruff starts or pitches at all this weekend at Kentucky, regardless of how many pitches he throws tomorrow. I just feel like that would be too big a risk coming off of an injury like he had. I know it's really no different than a bullpen session if he only throws 50 pitches, but as a former pitcher, you always exert a lot more energy in a live 50 pitches than a bullpen 50 pitches. Or at least I did. Maybe that's why my pitching career was short and putrid though*

you are exactly right. being on the mound on gameday is totally different than a bullpen session. don't forget if he starts then he will throw a pregame session as well as pitches between innings. no comparison to that and a pen.

also, keep in mind that with some guys it doesn't matter if they throw 100 pitches or 20 pitches they still need the same amount of rest. not sure if woodruff is in this mold or if he is able to bounce back but if he pitches tuesday then i would rather not see him this weekend unless he is completely 100%.

This is a fairly large aspect that's being overlooked. I realize it's nonconference and not as important as the SEC games, but that is a really, really good team in the midweek that we need to defeat. They are RPI #17 right now and would look good on a resume' when it comes time to talk about regional hosts. We are 4-4 against the RPI top 50 right now. That needs to improve to have a chance to host...

Is more likely correct in this case. I would be kind of surprised if Woodruff pitches against Kentucky to be honest with you.

If he pitches tomorrow night, there should be no problem at all coming back and pitching on Sunday, assuming all goes well. That's just a regular 4 days rest for any pro pitcher at any level. And yeah, Cadaver, I know pitching in a game is different than throwing in the bullpen, but if he can pitch against Alcorn, he can pitch against Kentucky.

We have South Alabama on the road- another RPI top 50 team I believe, followed up by Ole Miss at a neutral site. So much for cupcake schedule, huh? This weekend against Kentucky is really big as well in terms of RPI for us. So, we have three pretty big non-conference games coming up after Alcorn.

Using Boyd's site, he has Rhode Island as a top 50 RPI team even though they are 6-11. I can't see that holding up over the course of the year, though.

Definitely not saying it can't be done. We may even see it with Woodruff. I just don't think I would risk it based off of the recent injury. Outside of bullpens he really hasn't thrown more than a few innings the entire year of live action...so I think two starts in a week may be pushing the arm a little bit since you tend to put a little more strain on the arm in live action. But you could definitely be right.

It depends on how many innings he pitches tomorrow. If they're considering bringing him back Sunday, I wouldn't expect to see him go more than 3 or 4 tomorrow. And I wouldn't expect to see him go more than 5 or 6 on Sunday. I do agree that if he has a longer outing tomorrow, the safe thing would be to hold him out this weekend.
