Excluding combat deployments cause there's hundreds of ways you nearly die.

I was at a steak house with my buddy and as I started chewing on a piece he made me bust out laughing. Unfortunately I inhaled and the steak lodged in my throat. I stood up and started knocking **** over. My buddy kept giving me the Heimlich maneuver over and over and it wasn't working. I can still vividly remember the lights going out. As crazy as it sounds, my last conscious thought was people gonna be at my coffin talking about me surviving 3 deployments to then die by steak. But with that final heimlich it lodged it enough that I could get just a tiny bit of air, but enough to keep me alive till the ambulance arrived. It was terrifying as hell. I'm sure some of you got some crazy stories I'd love to hear.

A couple of years ago I driving on a divided 4 lane highway. I was following a car in the right lane at normal following distance and normal speed. The car in front started slowing so I hit my turn signal to move to the left lane. Just as I started to change lanes, a car going the wrong way blasts by. The bend in the road and the other car had completely hidden a wrong way driver. I was literally within one to two seconds of a head on collision at 60+ mph each. It was like something from Final Destination.

I've been hospitalized with pancreatitis (which can be fatal) a couple of times and I can recall more than a few instances where I've ran into some severely terrifying weather while driving, but as far as I know, I've never had a truly near-death experience.

Thanks for your service, michaeluk26. :)

Almost drowned , July 3rd 1993 . Was boating alone in a small bass boat , I didnt realize the tiller steering had a TON of torque on it and the handle slipped out of my hands , yanking the boat into a 90 degree turn , threw me overboard in the middle of a large Canadian lake .. I was near a goner , Swam the approx width of the Ohio River .. clothed , to make shore . Very harrowing experience .

Thought you almost died due to kidney problems

Anyway. Home invasion gun to the back of my head and in the execution position on my knees.

If not but by the grace of God, and the prayers of my family, I could have died several times. Doing dumb things as a kid growing up on a farm and playing around with guns, vehicles, tractors, having falls, working, etc. I am not going to recite all of the stories, but all I can say is, it apparently just wasn't my time.

Was riding in front passenger seat on Alligator Alley on Spring Break. Driver started passing a semi on two lanes stretch. We were now facing another semi coming head-on at us with no chance to pass. I don't know what my driver friend did, but I grabbed the steering wheel & turned us off the highway on far/wrong side. Wound up in a cloud of sand & front driver tire in swamp with car at about 30 degrees on side. Had two other scary events, but this is worst.

Dang let me count, Cessna plane crash in Mississippi, rip tide caught me once thought for sure that was it, hurricane at my grandparents that was another one I thought it was over because the storm surge kept coming with no way out and of all things we were mangrove fishin and got T-boned by a shrimp boat. Coast guard told us the captain was passed out drunk when they finally got close enough to get a guy on and stop the rig 🍺

When I was 8 I was riding my bike down this steep curvy hill on the wrong side of the road. Car comes flying up and we both slam on the breaks. I end up under the front part of the car but unscathed. I mean another two feet and I’m probably dead. The woman gets out completely hysterical. I go home and tell my parents and they’re like “whatever”. Lol… I don’t think they realize how close their son was to dying. I’ve never ridden a bike on the wrong side of the road agai, that’s for sure.

Head on collision back in the early 90s. Lady jumped a hill and lost control, hit my dad and I while we were going about 50mph in his f150, her speedometer was stuck on 78mph. She died instantly, dad and I did not.

She hit us so hard it cracked the engine block and knocked the pinion through the rear end housing. Her forehead was on her windshield when I went over to check on her after getting out of the truck. I had a fractured shin, dad had braced himself on the steering wheel and it bent over from the impact. He broke his ankle and we were both really bruised up.

The crazy thing though, is my life actually flashed before my eyes. At impact, its like my brain got a rush of adrenalin and every memory I had ever made to that point all flashed in my head at one moment. Even things I had forgotten came back to me, definitely something I can't really explain.

My mom died of cancer in 2020 you piece of ****. Your lucky you've got a computer to hide behind.

I did almost die but I wasn't as close the choking. Now if someone didn't donate a kidney I would be dead right now and even that kidney only prolonged my life about 10 years.

I've had a gun pointed at my head but I was relatively confident I wasn't gonna be killed. Yours sounds horrifying.

Glad your health is better. Great news.

Yeah, pretty sure I was dunzo.

Mine happened when I was 20.

Riding with a college buddy on a country road. He tried to make a tight pass at about 60 mph (in a 92 GEO Prism) but didn’t have enough engine or room to pull it off. We narrowly avoided a headon collision with a pickup truck, my buddy swerved to the left in front of the oncoming truck and we ended up stopped in an open area of someone’s yard at the bottom of a small hill. We were shaken and scared but uninjured outside of a few bruises. The crazy part was when he swerved off the road, there were trees lining most of that part of the road. We just happened to roll through a rare opening. Got damn lucky that day. Might’ve peed’d on myself a little. Never rode with that dude again.

Every day we wake up is closer to dying.

I was 16 driving home from Maysville where we had just bought my first car. Got to Paris and almost ran off the road. No onto the median or the shoulder, OFF the road. This was before 68 was safe and more than one lane each way. I tried to go around a car near where Jerry’s is, and had my passenger side wheels half off of the road with no guardrail. Would have been hard to survive that drop in the car that I had. Dad was in front of me and he didn’t even notice. Probably for the best.

Forgot… yesterday flying into Denver Airport. On a perfectly clear day the dumbass air traffic guy scheduled two planes to come in at the exact same time. I looked out to the left and saw a plane from the East coming right towards us. We pull up and circle around to land again.

Should have got a DUI but didn't. Met Soupy Sales that day too in I think Raleigh NC, actually there to meet my brother. He had a holdover there. Got drunk on liquor. I was driving back to Bragg in NC and woke up on top of a mountain with a Welcome to South Carolina sign in my face.....

I was cured from ever drinking and driving again. To this day I hope I never hurt anyone. That was in about 1984...

When I was about 19, my buddy and I were coming out of a pool hall and this dude pulled a gun on us. Turns out he had given my buddy some pot to sell and we had smoked it all. I should have realized that broke friend who never had money all of sudden had pot. I had just won some cash in the pool hall so I paid my friends debt. Never saw either of them after that.

And like 8 years ago blood clots, docs told me if I had waited a couple of more days to come in there was a good chance one would have broken off to my brain.

Drug deal in an abandoned Tijuana strip club in 98 or 99. Almost carjacked (or just robbed?) In Los Angeles (Mid Wilshire) around the same time. Alcohol poisoning. Some terrible decisions about driving when I was young. Almost going on a date with a notorious murderer, although I don't think she would have killed me, still worth mentioning.

I'm pretty boring these days. I had some pretty wild adventures when I was young though. I spent a month in Thailand in 2018 and it didn't even involve drugs or hookers. Although I pretty much drank my way through the country.

Man, if I'm gonna get killed, let it be with Big Tyrone. All day. Everyday.

Louisiana Gulf, fishin for mangrove snapper and we are drilling them on a shelf anchored down and the rig T boned us. Almost broke the boat in half and skipped starboard and kept going. We jumped out before he hit us and grabbed the anchor rope and crawled in the back of the boat and called the CG and they got the dude about ten miles west
