What's the deal with the O line recruiting?

Last year we only signed 2 guys and 1 of the 2 isnt panning out in practice. And this year we only have 1 commit. Looking at the roster we graduate Derek and JC next year. Those two guys are NFL caliber players and will be hard to replace. I don't want to have to rely 3 redshirt freshmen as starters one day. Are we going heavy JUCO next year? Is their are reason why we have taken this approach? TIA

Secondly, Virges will probably be moved to the OL, and I think we pick up 2, maybe 3 more OL this class.

For some reason we were behind on OT recruiting, but the staff seems to have picked up the pace as of late. Expect two or three more to sign this year. Next year is a good OL year in MS, but we may have to take a gamble on a JUCO to get some experience (although that experience is questionably transferable). We are in pretty good shape on OG's.

We actually lose JC, Derek, and Mark Melichar and James Freeman nex year. Then the following year we lose another wave of guys.

I don't see 2-3 more on the prospect data base? The only O linemen left on the board that isn't committed to another is Damien Robinson?

And when did he join our team?

Is he Phillip Freeman's brother? Or is James maybe Phillip's first name?

Damn just noticed we will lose Freeman...that one will hurt.

I think we have some decent OL prospects left on the table..but we can't 17 around and we must land them.

"James" Freeman and Mark Melichar don't contribute so I wouldn't call them losses.

Sam Watts and Gabe Jackson both red-shirted so you can't really call them disappointments. Hardy and T. Smith will both be sophomores so they could pan out as good guards.

We will sign 4 O-linemen this year. They will come from this group of names: Clausell (commit), Eatmon, Robinson, Chucky Curry, Muniz, Simek or Day.

A guy commented on KV's blog that Chucky Curry is going to commit with us. He is a three-star offensive tackle prospect from East Central CC. Curry is 6-6 and 309. Of course, the info is from a friend of his from Newton, so will see.</p>

Robinson, Eatmon, and Bailey are all possible gets. Dillon Day could be a walk on who I think shows a lot of potential. I still contend that Virges will be a OL.

This is an interesting and relevant thread. It's a topic that I've been wondering about myself. Not that I follow recruting closely, but this is one of the few recruiting threads that I've considered worth reading lately.
