I worked in many eating establishments and not once, no matter what time somebody came in, or how many times the food was sent back, or how big of a dbag the customer was did I or anybody else do anything to their food. It wasn't that we were nice guys or professionals, but it wasn't worth the hassle.

He was responding to a post which implied he worked in the food service industry.
I am a nurse but not currently working as one. I'm bartending in Key West and make well over $275/day and work Monday-Friday days only. It's pretty decent gig. Not looking forward to going back to the real world and taking a pay cut.

Wholly shite, when did you work at Darryl's? I worked there in the early 90's.

It was around 2000. It was awesome really with all the ribs and different types of food. Truly one of the better food places that I enjoyed working at.

But that first time I had to wait on the upstairs balcony tables was BS! Absolutely thought about quitting that night.

My barber used to work at the Officers Club on the old Navy base here. Some lieutenant came in 10 minutes before closing time and wanted a steak. Everything was already put away since no customer had come in for an hour. There was a ribeye in the trash (in a doggie bag that wasn't picked up). The cook pulled it out, washed it off, threw it on the grill for a couple of minutes, and served it to the guy. He demolished it, and told the server he'd be back the next night at the same time for a steak just like that one he just ate.

Whenever Mr Gray meets up with the old crew, they tell that story to anybody who would listen to them.

Whoever said F* waiting tables I get it coming from someone who did it. However, everybody should wait tables for a little while so they all have a clue and will treat servers accordingly.

That would be me. I simply worked with the public far too long. I always crack up

Anyone who comes in right before close is a total jerk. The movie "Waiting" was dead on with that aspect.

Anyone who has worked at a restaurant knows that terrible feeling when someone comes in that late and gets seated in your section. It just put you back another hour. It always pisses me off that people do that. They have no respect or courtesy for the inconvenience it causes someone when you come in right before close and then stay afterward.

Never worked in the food industry but have a somewhat related story. While at UK in the late '70's I roomed with a couple of guys at Transylvania Park Apartments. Just so happened that a guy that we went to HS with, and who happened to be the "Golden Boy" while in school lived about two apartments down. None of us could really stand him and he had a bad habit of barging in and helping himself to our sodas, especially after we had loaded up at the Whistlestop Pop Shop. It got really irritating and one of my roommates remarked how the Peach soda looked remarkably like urine. So, he drank a peach soda and put one of the biggest urine samples I've ever seen in it's place. Put the cap back on with a hammer and put it in the refrigerator. Like clockwork, the jerk came over the next day and helped himself to what was our last "soda" in the refrigerator. He took one drink and spit it out all over the floor. Never happened again.

The building had been a Mexican restaurant in its first life. The upstairs gave me time to sneak some apps off of plates on my way up the stairs. I have certainly had worse jobs than my time there.
