Why even make this into a big deal?

It obviously worked. What are we supposed to do, just bend over and take it from them because they are the saints of the SEC, the mighty LSU Tigers and we should go back to the doormat? Are we supposed to leave hanging sliders over the plate so Katz can continue to put them out of the yard? ********, I have hated LSU in baseball more than OM and this is a big reason why. I wanted this series more than any others because we haven't beaten them in anything meaningful in years and I'm more than ready for that to change.

Manieri just won 2 games on the road, just say you are proud of the wins, it was tough, and move on. This is the kind of stuff that makes you want to beam Katz in the head. Jacoby Jones is right up there with him, but I'm glad he struggled this weekend.

Again, don't agree with locating pitches around the head, but doubt it was intentionally to hit him in the head either.

I don't blame Mainieri for being upset, but it's going to happen again- now and when Katz is in the minors/majors.

So it seems that Mainieri has a problem with strategy when it works against him. Man, me too, Paul. **** sucks when somebody gets in your head.

For those that don't feel like watching the video,

going through the tweets, or reading a story that I'm going to have to assume was cut and pasted from LSUsports.net, and not the work of an actual beat writer; I'll sum up the major players:

Mainieri- "It must be exhausting to lose to a team as awesome and classy and great as us. No wonder these losers threw at us for showing them up. Which we didn't. I only do things the right way. Because we're classy. And humble. So incomprehensibly humble."

Katz- "I'ts really a lack of class, not showing us the proper respect. I owned these two-bit chumps all weekend. So they got mad or something. I don't know, I was too busy shellacking what passes for pitching and admiring my hitting in the rightest way possible. Sorry you hicks don't get how awesomely classy and classily awesome our program is. Right way. And humble."

Last eight games the series is 4-4. They won 2 extra inning games. I'm convinced we're the better team when rea is healthy

LSU 2nd - Katz struck out swinging (3-2). After being nearly beaned.
LSU 4th - Katz flied out to rf (0-0).
LSU 6th - Katz walked (3-0). [Kinda Intentional]

That wasn't even an article... that was awful. If our team isn't pissed about this, I don't know what will piss them off. I hope we have another run-in with them in the tourney...

The ball was two feet behind Katz. It's like he had to get out of the way. Also Matt Stevens said the ball was throw behind Rea. But it was just an inside fastball not behind him. Steven's again tries to bring drama and make stories up.

That's baseball, and our team needed that. He did was a senior captain is supposed to do. He showed lsu and our who team that he has a set.

I was behind home plate and I guess what they forgot to add to the story is that Katz was laughing about it immediately afterwards. It was a message pitch, no doubt, but it wasn't a bean ball.

They are good, but they do not wear it with class. They are arrogant and a little bit on the trashy side. But, hey....that is LSU!

And like someone else said, the irony of LSU players and coaches lecturing any "program" about class is beyond ironic. Screw those pricks. I don't know who they play next week, but if I were pitching I'd be tempted to do the same exact thing at that kid's first Ab. And then just giggle from the mound.

He's a complete puss. Cohen hasn't made many friends in the league but at least he doesn't go running to the nearest reporter after every loss.

As a former pitcher, I would never have intentionally thrown at a batters head. The kidney though is a different story and I think this is common. Every coach I played for (including Pete Young) had a sign to hit a batter and the directions were always to aim at the kidney. Never been told to aim at the head. BUT, it is entirely possible he was aiming at his body and went more towards the head. Pitchers are really good at hitting the area around the strike zone, they dont practice bean balls so...

Now that you mention it, this is classic LSU baseball after a loss. They'll always find something to ***** about the other team for and act like they don't celebrate wins like everyone else does. Remember the comment about how they were too good to dogpile after winning an SEC tournament title when we beat them in the finals that year? Only thing is, oops, they DID dogpile when they won it the year before.

I was talking to a former pro pitcher about throwing at batters awhile back. He said it was a lot harder than you think, and you only get one chance so you don't want to mess it up. If you do screw it up you catch hell from your team mates.

He is correct. I did this once and the team and coaches ridiculed me. It is MUCH harder than it looks and you only get one shot. I threw at a guy on back to back pitches one time and hit him with the second one. Looking back cant believe I didnt get thrown out/warned/charged

Its as stupid as fights in hockey. Hockey fights simply arent needed. They dont accomplish anything, and just distract from the actual game.

Hockey fights and throwing a baseball at 90+ mph at a batter are not needed and wouldnt be missed if they didnt happen, yet both are accepted basically because they are tradition.
What a stupid reason for something to continue- "Well, its what weve done in the past!"
