Latest projections http://sebaseball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1507186 got me thinking about it.

Best: South Alabama as the 2 in our regional, FSU in the supers.
Worst: Clemson in our regional, matched up against North Carolina.

I could also see us get OKState as our 2, then get sent cross country to Oregon or Oregon State.

I don't care who's in our regional and who we're paired up with in our super regional as long as it's not Vandy or UNC. Those two are total buzz saws.

They won't pair 1 seeds from the same conference..

So unc is one to avoid

The simplest answer: any team with a corner painting, soft throwing left hander.

I'd personally like to avoid North Carolina in the Super.

I could see UNC as a potential, but Florida State is the most likely matchup, followed by Virginia. I could see one of the Oregon schools as well.

I think we're going to have a real tough time winning any road super regional. But the best chance is probably FSU and the worst is UNC.

I personally want Cal State Fullerton in a Super, but that won't happen.

All of the Top 8 are really good this year, so I'm definitely hoping for an upset so that we could host a Super.

If the committee agrees with the national analysts who suggest we're one of the last teams to grab a host spot, we'll be paired up with a top 4 seed. Since they won't pair conference teams up, that leaves us with UNC or Virginia.

If you crunch the numbers, you can make a solid case that we have the 11th best resume in the country, behind the predicted top 8 seeds, plus NC State and Louisville. If that were the case in the committee's eyes, I could see us being paired up with FSU or one of the teams out west. Tallahassee would be the ideal travel situation, and I think Oregon/Fullerton would offer the most winnable matchup... but I doubt any of that happens.

Yes, that would be best case!

That's what I've been thinking.

Don't underestimate west coast baseball. In the last 10 years, it's produced 5 national champions to the SEC's 3. And both have produced 6 title series finalists. Plus it's a hell of a long trip into a very different environment than our players are used to. Give me FSU over Fullerton every time.

That's not how it works. They use an S-curve to determine the brackets for basketball. But in baseball, they only seed the top 8 teams. After that, it's all regional. Assuming we host, it really doesn't matter if we barely missed being a national seed or barely missed being a #1 seed.

We did beat Fullerton in the first round of the 1979 CWS. Only game we won and they came through the losers bracket to win it. They came here for a regional or two back in the early 90s when Polk had first started to just mail it in after he "retired" the first time. And we went out west for a regional back then too. Want to say it was at Long Beach St. May have played them there too.

You're right, 1-6 total against them, but not in regional play.

1-0 in College World Series. 0-4 in regionals (1988 and 2001) and 0-2 out there.

Obviously that's how it works, in general. But each committee is different, and some have shown in the past that IF the proximity is close enough either way (which happens a lot with SEC/ACC teams, and will happen this year) other factors, like matching up weaker hosts with stronger national seeds, lend a hand in making a decision.

i don't see how luoisville has a better resume. 86th SoS. end of discussion.

imo, objectively looking at resumes, we are closer to being a national seed than not hosting. i just can't see any 2 ways about it. 40 Ws. 6th ranked SoS. most games played against top 50 rpi of anyone in the country. rpi of 10.

You can bet that if we are fortunate to host (and we should) our match up in the super (unless some 1 through 8 is upset) will be the absolute worst possible. That's just how our 17ing luck runs.

Ok expert, why didn't they pair up Florida and Miami last year, or South Carolina and NC State?

Having spoken directly with committee members in the past, I can assure you that sometimes they take these matchups into account, as long as they fit the regional mold first.

All that amounts to is that we have just as good of a chance of going to Chapel Hill and Charlottesville as we do Tallahassee.

Louisville is on a helluva win streak... 16 in a row to end the year. Their schedule is weak, but they beat 8 outta the 12 Top 50 RPI teams they played. I guess it could go either way if you're making a case for us or them. We're probably better, straight up.
