This was a question from ABC that I found interesting. For me it had to be our pass defense, specifically last week and will redmond.
Also, thank you Cooter Davenport, for askin the question that's on all of our minds. Is Bob Carskadon OzarkaNSW? We all know the answer even though he declined to answer.

Bad:
UAB shredding us through the air.
Shumpert's lack of production.
Dak's still making very poor reads at time.

Good:
Gus Walley's athleticism.
Preston Smith's development.
Beniquez Brown's development.

Jameon's lack of touches/production is surprising to me. Hoping it will pick up once SEC play starts.

My #1 disappointment is our still laughable FG kicking situation by a long shot, but I guess I'd have to say the my biggest surprise would be the way that our secondary got completely torched against UAB on Saturday. People can say all they want about how things weren't as bad as they seemed and maybe there's some truth to that, but the fact of the matter is that UAB beat us FOUR separate times by dropping back and giving it the schoolyard heave. There's just no excuse for that, and there's no telling how many times UAB receivers dropped shorter passes on Saturday that would have made the passing stats even worse.

My belief is that we'll tighten up so I wouldn't say that I'm worried about it at this point, but it was shocking to watch last weekend.

It was more shocking to me that they were consistently hitting that deep pass. Unless either of those QB's is considered a future NFL prospect, which I don't believe is the case, I wouldn't expect either of them to hit that throw in stride the same number of times over again if they and their receiver were the only two players on the field. We could have had perfect man coverage on every play and they still probably would have hit 1 or 2; it was just one of those days for them. Plus, if we'd put our safeties deep to help instead of cheating up to the line to stop the run all day, we probably wouldn't even be talking about this right now.

I recall there was at least one of those plays where our LBs and safeties were just hanging out in no-man's land. Hopefully we can get some safety support to keep those big passes to a minimum. I'd like to go back and watch the replay and see exactly what happened on those plays as far as coverage.

Agree with you post, I would add the FG kicking, Dak's timing on passes, and

Chris Jones not showing up as big as I would like so far to the bad list. On the good I think our OL might, might be ok and our receiving corp is better than I thought but need to get Jameon going, add Smokey on Punt return to good too.

My biggest surprise:
Bad - Field Goal kicking - no words for how bad it is...regressed even from previous miseries
Good - The consistency of our receiving corp so far

My first thought was the same as yours about Chris Jones, but I think he'll be fine as long as Mullen starts playing him alongside Preston and either P.J. or Kaleb more, which I think he will when we get into serious games. He's been triple-teamed a lot in the first two games, which wouldn't be an option if he was alongside the first teamers.

Beniquez Brown's development.

For me, there were multiple issues in UAB's aerial bombardment that others have mentioned...luck (for them), bad defensive plan, bad safety play, et.

Shumpert only got a few carries after a suspension, I think we need more data to see what he can do.

Dak was inconsistent last year so he is showing that he is a bit better this year, but still late on his reads and throws. He'll get better if "we" will allow him to get rhythm

I have always been a Preston Smith fan so not surprised, just want more, more, more, more....

Bennie Brown has been ahead of Richie who I thought would be real good. If you watch the film, he makes a spectacular play but then still gets blocked a bit more than he should given his athleticism. However, he is definitely improved a lot and will be a star.

Good
1. We have found a punt returner.
2. The other 5-6 LBs not named McKinney - these guys can play.
3. Nick James today compared to Nick James 2 years ago.

Bad
1. CBs getting burnt against UAB - but if it had to happen once this season, that was the game.
2. Preston Smith has twice as many INTs as the rest of the team. Good for him, bad for secondary.
3. Who is our #2 RB --- appears to be a huge dropoff from J-Rob.

I'll agree with you on Jones. They times where I've made a point to watch him specifically it seems he's with the 2s and always commands at least a double team. It could be due to the heat but I've seen him 'tap out' and call for a sub on several occasions. Maybe he was in for a while and maybe everyone else does it just as much but I've only noticed him, and James of course. Play him with Brown, PJ and Preston and I think we'll see a bigger impact out of him whether it be his performance or one of the other three. PJ Preston and CJ 'should' warrant extra protection and with those 3 on the field it's impossible and should allow Brown or Jefferson to get 1 on 1s on the back side. Hopefully we will see if this is the case going forward and we'll be able to know just how good CJ is/can be.

I have to change my biggest surprise. It has to be how incredibly hard it was for me to drive from Oak Grove to Louisville with taking a ****. Thank God the KFC if Louisville was open because I sure as hell wasn't stopping anywhere in Starkville. **

Good:

1. Preston Smith
2. Jamoral Graham
3. Gus Walley

Bad

1. Will Redmond
2. Damian Williams seems to have regressed
3. Tubby has done nothing so far, although I'm willing to give him a pass right now because of his brother's death plus lots of other WR's stepping up.
4. Our backup RB's haven't stepped up yet

The kicking game is not a surprise. I knew it wouldn't be good.

We have receivers that can actually catch the ball.
I've seen plenty of wide open receivers drop the ball for many years.
