I know one team dropping out of the top 25 this week . . . Horrendous football.

Mertens seems like a decent coach but I’m wondering if he hit lightning in a bottle last season. Nowhere near as impressive. Even their d just doesn’t look like a normal LZ d.

That linebacker they had last year can cover for a lot of ills. He was frikkin brilliant last year and all over the field. A one man wrecking crew. The only other HS linebacker I have seen in recent years that compares is the kid from Bolingbrook. Tuff Boreland? (Sp) forgive me if I got the name/spelling wrong but Bones should know of him and how to spell the name correctly.

Losing Sanborne (sp?) - hurts A lot I’m sure - but can it explain all?

The problem was mostly the LZ offense, yet again.

Jack Sandborn. He is getting his first start playing for Wisconsin this weekend.

They are finding out that life with a transfer isn’t so glorious. Not the same LZ.

Interesting games next week

Warren at Lake Forest
Lake Zurich at Stevenson

It’s crazy how things change week to week in high school football two weeks ago when Naz beat LZ some on the board acted like it was the biggest win of the year and after tonight it looks like just another game.

I think in high school football you just don’t know who is good because no one knows of the previous years underclassmen were any good. Look at Loyola. Everyone thought it was a huge upset by mc but now it might just be that Loyola is having a down year. Wasn’t even a game today vs BR.

The coach has to take some blame here. LZ was leading 7-3 at half, the defense kept them in the game, then the head coach kept alternating QB's between the transfer and the more athletic Jr WR (who is an option QB and yet everytime he just handed off to the RB with no fakes) and it was a complete disaster.

Good points
BR appears to be the real deal this year. Let’s see how they finish the year.

Back in the day when Bryan Stortz was HC and Proffit was running the defense, i saw some 2-2 or 2-3 LZ teams bounce back and come playoff time be 6-3 and yet somehow transform into one of the best (and most feared) teams in the state. I just don't see that happening now.

I am not a fan of alternating QB's as it often stops the momentum between series. We had alternating QBs the past two seasons at Montini and in the end it killed us.

One was very good at the option and could run but the other two were better passers. Coach Bu stayed with the option QB for the last several games last year and it helped with the continuity but Montini's best passing QB didn't get but three or four passes all year mainly on trick plays and he completed every one of them. Hurt us in the playoffs.

That is exactly what is happening. The continuity was horrible. It was like the offense never practiced. Coach is going to have to make a decision between the 2 QB's. The transfer did ok completing throws and moving around a bit. But under heavy pressure forget about it-play over.
