When did ESPN3 blackouts get so ridiculous?

When people started cancelling their cable subscription and started viewing everything online through their TV.
It doesn't have to be free, just very low priced. Netflix and Redbox have proved that model for movies (and Netflix changing its price structure proved if you go too high you lose subscribers too). People would probably pay $0.99 a game to watch on demand ($12 for the season) so long as you didn't have to sign up for some other service. There comes a price point at which people go from legitimately purchasing stuff to "pirating" it.
None of the old state games are on espn3 anymore. I used to get ready for the upcoming season by watching some of the best ones from the year before.
No doubt. Luckily, the MSU vs Jackson State game doesn't have any blackout restrictions (at least not yet).
it looks like the games with a black out are the games being aired on espn or espn2 or espnu or abc. so basically, only games that are nationally available on one of the espn family networks are blacked out in certain regions where the game will be in high demand. or if the game is regional (like on abc), the espn3 feed will be blacked out for those in areas who can watch the game on abc instead.
It's that people only want to pay for what they want
With a cable package, you have to pay for a lot of crap you'll never use. Services like Hulu Plus are the right way to go. ESPN3 needs to just charge a monthly fee and lift all blackouts. It's bad enough that there's a power struggle between them and some of the smaller cable providers, and folks whose only cable option is something like Metrocast are the ones getting screwed. HBOGO also needs to get with the program and allow people to subscribe only to HBOGO without having a HBO subscription.
