When did State start helping develop drones for the military?

I’d guess probably 40-50 years ago. Maybe not that long but we’ve been working on drones for a very long time. And I’m sure a lot of it was probably military.
Sonny Montgomery and John Stennis had some sweet pull on grant money allocation.
State is one of the top UAS/drone research universities in the country
There was talk of such in the early 2000s, an outgrowth of CAVS I think, but I don’t know anything specific
