When did the myth that we are a basketball doormat start?

People always complain about how basketball didnt exist at State before Stansbury arrived on campus

We are 5th all-time in conference titles
We are tied for 4th in Tournament titles
We are tied for 8th in the conference in NCAA appearances- thats not great, but doesnt make you a doormat

How does that equal doormat?

Did you just state that people complain about basketball not existing before Stansbury and then mention our standing in SEC tourney titles and NCAA appearances? Please tell me your know-it-all azz realizes that we have not won an SEC tourney title without Stans on the sideline and that all but 2 of our NCAA appearances were with him on the sideline?? That about says it all for your credibility.

How did those numbers look prior to the Stansbury era?

True, but skewed....we won the SEC in '59, '61, and '62 yet made no NCAA appearances. Those should've all been tourney trips. Considering that those were some of our best teams ever, that's a tough pill to swallow.

We have only won 1 SEC title under The Recruiter- and priot to him taking over- we were tied for 5th with 5 titles

If you add in the 3 NCAA Tourney's we skipped to due to racism, we'd be even higher- very few of the SEC schools had many appearances before the Tourney expanded in the mid-1980's- so we really weren't lagging behind in that department either.

And take away his 2 Tourney titles- and we are tied for 6th all-time

Conference Titles - 6 Total (4 happened prior to Stansbury, but all 4 were in a 5-year period from 1959-1963)
Tournament Titles - 2 Total (0 happened prior to Stansbury)
NCAA Appearances - 10 Total (1 happened prior to Stansbury)

So in summary, the MSU program has done absolutely jack **** prior to Stansbury stepping onto campus aside from one 5-year period in the history of the program.

That said, it's simply time for Stansbury to go.

out of your ears. Your response should have been "oops, my bad". Instead you begin altering the data again to fit your argument.

You used SEC tourney titles as an example of MSU success before Stansbury. He was an assistant for one and a head coach for the other two. That is all we have. Stick your foot all the way down your throat and STFU.

weren't factoring in teams that should have gone to the tourney in getting us to the rankings in his original post. He stuck his foot in his mouth and now simply cannot admit it. Watch the books he writes to divert attention from the stupidity of his original post.

We have 3 SEC tourney titles. I think you are leaving off 1996 when Stans was an assistant.

We had two NCAA appearances before Stans was a coach at State. 1991 and 1963 (I think).</p>

how many did we have before Robert Kirby?

How many coaches have we had since the NCAA Tourney expanded, which has led to these numbers growing?

Maybe it was the 8 winning seasons we had between Babe McCarthy's last SEC title and Richard Williams taking over our program.

Richard only managed 6 winning seasons.

because you chose to use this line in your initial post:

"People always complain about how basketball didnt exist at State before Stansbury arrived on campus"

Pretty damn sure he had arrived on campus as the top assistant in 1996.
