LMFAO the guy who called me ignorant and an idiot bc I didn’t share his political opinion is now accusing others of hiding behind stereotypes. That’s funny.

I specifically mentioned exactly how you corrupted my opinion and used a completely different opinion as a straw man. You wanna reply to my specific example or re explain what I already said was your straw man bs argument?

Please tho just for my enjoyment tell me which stereotypes I’m hiding behind? I make a comment about how it’s sad that some on the far left have co opted the flag as racist and a symbol of colonialism as A DIRECT RESPONSE to a poster who said essentially the same thing that is Americans are too invested in our false idols such as anthems and flags.

No, I called you ignorant because you outright said that you’re glad you’re on the side of patriots, which shows you’re not really understanding what’s going on and therefore ignorant. This little argument we are having is not going anywhere. Can someone else argue with this guy? I have to work.

Well, it’s pretty much not open for debate if they have the right to do that, so I’d be surprised if someone made that argument either way

Good god man half you and you’re buddies posts in this very thread are shouting down to others saying they don’t have a right to say one side can protest and the other cannot. I am saying that I haven’t seen a single person In this thread make that argument. Try to keep up here bud

Yeah I suppose you are slow. That’s ok as you said to me earlier maybe not your fault. I said that I was glad I was not on the side of those who view the flag as a false symbol of freedoms and democracy. An opinion agisn for the fifth time now that was specifically referenced by a poster in this thread.

Not sure why that’s so hard to understand. But clearly it is. Tell me again tho how I’m a hypocrite for saying something I never said at all. That’s your thing I guess.

I would not characterize it as "false oppression." It might not be what many in China face, but we are not China. We have to hold ourselves to a higher standard, and we unfortunately do not at times. I remember being twenty-years-old, and I knew a lot more about the world and my nation than I, as a fifty-year-old man (and white man at that) might give college-age kids credit for in this day and age. They know by experience, and they also have a bit more freedom to make this statement. They would have gotten hammered by the fans if they did this in the 80's, but the black experience in America was just as real then as it is today. I think that it took courage for Cal to be honest with them and to trust their judgement. Those of us over a certain age do not hold a monopoly on truth and understanding. These young men might help all of us to reflect on where we are and where we can go in the future.

No sir. You do not get to come up with your own version of words to fit an agenda.

No one in America is oppressed. There are severely disadvantaged people, which we don’t do enough for. But race is largely irrelevant in that conversation.

What benefit does it do people to convince them they’re oppressed which denotes an inability on their part to succeed? That cripples the mindset of millions. It’s not a healthy way to go.

I get you’re attempting to be empathetic, but people need to think beyond these media sound bites for political expediency. These issues effect more people than most realize.

I also find it (as a non white person) horrendous that you feel the need to disclose your race. Get a grip, it doesn’t matter what color someone is. These issues are socioeconomic.

One thing you all confirm to me is that this isn’t about players or Kentucky basketball. It’s just an opportunity for you to complain about liberals on the internet, which is apparently what you think politics is.

whatever. You guys have fun with that

I think one has to consider the issue of the actual "protest".
I support the player's right to do it and am not offended by it. But at this point, look at the debate in this thread. It's all about "kneeling" and not about the actual issue... I'm not saying the young men have bad intentions. They've been told by their peers that this is how you protest.

If it was me, I'd kneel right before the tipoff.. Get caught on camera. That would generate buzz without offending those who view it as disrespectful. The reality is that those who feel disrespected are likely a nice chunk of people who need to be educated about the actual issue. So you lose them at the point of disrespecting them.

BS. Conservatives/Republicans denounced what happened last week. Democrats encouraged, justified or were silent concerning the mayhem their supporters perpetrated since last spring.

Not commenting on what has happened, I don’t disagree with who did what. I’m saying the posturing on all sides and unwillingness to meet in the middle is unacceptable and wrong. It’s time people stop listening for the purpose of responding and begin listening for the purpose of understanding. At the end of the day we are all human, basic decency and respect for humanity should be the starting point.

That is the type of generalization that makes any rational discussion very difficult. I refuse to accept your premise. You may not have faced oppression based upon your race ( I know I have not as well), does not make that a truth for everyone else in our nation. You may feel the way you feel, but I cannot agree with you, and I will try to keep an open mind and work for positive change that helps all oppressed people, many of whom suffer this based upon socio-economics, and many of whom suffer this based upon the color of their skin, in the United States of America.

George floyd is very debatable at this point. Police brutality and should be punished 100%. Far from conclusive the police were responsible for his death. He also wouldn't have been dealing with the police in the first place if he weren't a violent criminal on drugs...

This breonna Taylor narrative is disingenuous at best. It's well documented what actually took place and what kind of person she was. Definitely not murder and that is conclusive.

I will gladly acknowledge black people have more negative and deadly interactions with the police (although 99% are not unarmed), if you'll concede black people commit a disproportionate amount of violent crime.

Of course you wont...

You want me to admit something I am not sure of? I have no idea if violent crime is committed more by whites or blacks. I would tend to believe that "violent" crime is too broad of a brush to look at and there are specific committed more by each race. For instance, you could probably say that more check cashing store robberies occur by black people and more schools shootings occur by white people. I don't even know what all crimes are considered violent. Is simple assault violent?

I think the point is that the majority of black people are good (same as any race) yet they are routinely profiled and treated differently in America. What metric is being used? % of population? They are less likely to hold decent jobs, secure bank loans, more likely to be shot by police, etc. Are there black people that are abhorrent individuals that deserve to be punished? Sure, the same as there are white people, yet I don't worry about being stopped by police and worry I will be shot for no reason. I don't have to worry about not getting a loan for any reason other than my past credit. I don't have to worry about not getting a job because I am white.

There is racial inequality. Whether people choose to acknowledge it or not, there is.

So many factors that aren't comfortable for people like you to look at. Black people do tend to not do as well, and all other ethnicities do quite a bit better. So are people only racist against black people, but not Asian, Indian, etc? Does that really make any sense?

We could dive deep into culture, such as family, priority on education, expectation of success etc. You wouldn't enjoy those conversations and you'd almost certainly tell me I'm wrong and racist even though I can cite lots of statistics to back myself up.

Teaching kids society will not let them succeed and not push them to try and succeed will generally lead to one outcome. Add in 70% fatherless homes, a complete breakdown in education priorities, and you have a severe cultural problem.

It's not fun to talk about those things. It's just whites people's fault...

Also, PLEASE show me where a black person with good credit and and income can't get a loan... I beg you. Thats a complete fantasy. No lender will turn away a good credit applicant. They want money...

I also find it funny you bring up jobs, considering we have affirmative action which almost guarantees minorities some of the best jobs in certain fields. White people have no such guarantee and I see this a ton in my career field.

And yet every news station, including Fox, has been having a blast for the last 4 years at the expense of an entire political party. I don't think I would pick now as the best time to be making fun of the opposition.

what’s the issue? in 2019 10 unarmed black men out of 90,000 arrests were killed. Where’s all the police slaughtering black men that I keep hearing about? maybe it’s just another false narrative easily swallowed by people who have white guilt.

I haven't called you wrong or racist once. I agree that there are more factors other than just race that play into all of those things. We can talk education. Do you think the inner city schools that are predominantly black are funded the same as the "white" schools? Have the same technology? Have the same teachers? Kids don't have to be taught that society won't let them succeed. They live it. Most grow up with fewer opportunities, fewer resources, struggle to make ends meet, etc. They can never get ahead and it isn't surprising that many turn to illegal activities to try and make money.

I don't claim to be an expert in solving any racial injustice, but I am certainly not going to deny that these injustices are not there plain as day to see. I don't think the BLM side is trying to blame anyone either. They are not asking for people to be put on trial as far as I am aware. They are asking for equality, which supposedly our constitution provides.

I see, so this is where you tell me I called you names, told you that you were racist, etc., when in all actuality, I tried having a civil conversation with you. You have no idea who I am or what I represent and really have zero clue how I feel about myself. I am not speaking for others. I am simply acknowledging that they have an issue with the current situation and agree that something should be done.

Yes, my type, is truly the worst.

I have worked in inner city schools and shockingly, some of the most funded schools are inner city, but you'd never know it looking at them. The teachers in these schools were excellent and deeply cared. It was extremely sad to see how many parents didn't care though...
These kids are taught at home first, and the message is one that cripples them. If you're told you can't succeed no matter what you do, will you really try?...doubtful.

If you truly think BLM isn't trying to blame anyone and hasn't specifically asked for people to be put on trial, I don't know what to tell you. They've done exactly that repeatedly.

Seems odd to be mad at college kids using their platform to express their views, but these same people have no issues with a Sheriff using his platform to express his.

"Hey, Alexa, what is the meaning of hypocrisy?"

If you look up hypocrisy in the dictionary, you will probably see the anchor from CBS news with quotes condemning the Trump supporters as a "mob" while calling the looting by BLM a peaceful protest.

interesting their own website says they are
#BlackLivesMatter was founded in 2013 in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer. Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, Inc. is a global organization in the US, UK, and Canada, whose mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives.

Or, maybe next time drop the name calling, straw mans and pseudo intellectual virtue signaling bull shite and a legit political discussion could have been had. Maybe.

I can't speak for anyone else, so I am not sure if the poster who said that meant this, but before there was an actual BLM organization, it was a movement/belief and to most, I think it still is. I don't say BLM and think of some highly structured organization. I am also not going to say that regardless of who claims it, they aren't one.

Since you are so quick to peg far left groups as lunatics, I was wondering if you could share your thoughts on QAnon, the Proud Boys, etc.

Lol. Just really bad. This is what you do.

Not me I’m not bad you are

that’s where your argument stands at this point.

Hang it up buddy it’s time.

Or maybe, tell me more about how you’re fighting for the kids and uk basketball and the rest of us are just selfish redneck ignorant hillbillies who don’t align with your superior philosophical and political leanings. That should continue to go over well.

FTR—I agree with your bastion of liberal integrity Matt Jones here (don’t say that often)—I think that the kids and coaches can protest however they feel they want to express themselves. However, I would not personally protest in the same way bc I feel it’s disrespectful to the flag and anthem to do so. They may disagree with the fact they are being disrespectful to the flag and anthem but I don’t share that opinion.

It’s 100% a movement and like all movements there are those who attempt to capitalize and normalize them into a central structure. One of these entities made some statement about communism or something radical and they use it as a way to say “See I told you they are evil.” And it’s because they need a boogie man and they have no interest in truth. Just like Trump, who they all support, truth is an inconvenient thing that gets in the way of agenda.

Well have those groups done any rioting, looting, destroying people’s business and lively hood? If they have, I not heard about it, so they are meaningless and not worthy of talking about.
