No, Brad will not graduate next year. Before we can have this kind of discussion, it would help to have basic facts straight. My opinion is that Calipari isn’t seriously entertaining retirement and won’t leave UK anytime soon.

According to one of the the behind the scenes shows, the one where Brad goes home to wash clothes, Coach Cal states Brad will be graduating in 3 years. I say next year is his last year. Even though he makes a lot of money, this is a very aging job.

We will never get a better recruiter then Coach Cal, and I believe he will never get us in trouble. I think Cal is CLASS, but I don't think he is the best XandO coach in the business. He appears to be reluctant to change his coaching style, which I think will hurt him. If he's going to continue to run the "Dribble Drive," he has to get some outside (3 point) shooter, to loosen up the middle. It appears to me that his main priority, including the guards, is height. Look back at the teams who beat us, and most of the guards of the other team, are 6'2 and under, and a quick first step, and cross-over dribble.

Good post. I think for Cal's system to to win a title. He needs a great PG. I think SGA was really good player but IMO wasn't a great PG.
He needs a couple good shooters and a rim protecter. Also one or two guys with expierence. Not only that but a lot of luck.
What most fans don't realize winning titles is not easy. Only 8 in history. They don't grow on trees.
Uk basketball was here way before Cal and it will be here way after he and we are long gone.
But IMO it will be hard not impossible but very hard for the next coach to do what Cal has did here. He will be missed. Fans will be looking back after he is gone and realize just how good we had it. Sometimes people don't miss what they have till it is gone.

Well, if that is the case he best step up his recruiting, or change his recruiting, AND start coaching better in the NCAA tourney. His lack of in game coaching has already cost him 3 titles.

For you youngsters who are worried about when Coach Cal hangs it up. Relax. We are Kentucky. We had it before he came and we will have it after he leaves. Even Tubby Smith won a title at Kentucky. It is going to be OK.

I’d say he’ll hang it up when he’s damn good and ready. I think his coaching philosophy is “my 5 are better than your 5, no matter how you want to play”. He might need to tweak that a bit.

John Calipari recently celebrated his 59th birthday. He is still a young man, and a hall of fame member of his profession. You don’t have to be Einstein to see he loves his work. When he took the UK job, he knew what he was getting into. The guy has coached in the NBA. He makes $8 million a year at UK, and his son is a sophomore member of his team. Try as some people might, there just isn’t a rational reason to think he will leave UK anytime soon. Not happening.

Cal is aging in dog years and wearing himself out with the start from scratch training wheels and "i got to get kids paid" routine every year.

The added unnecessary pressure he puts on himself with this whole "players first...families got to eat mission statement..." is a fine admirable endeavor, however just think about the weight he takes on with it that no other coach takes on. The responsibility to get kids to the league so they can provide for their families. That is unprecedented.

Sure, all coaches want to do their best for kids and certainly wish them well. This crusade to get kids paid, is beyond reasonable expectations for any coach and program. It's not that other coaches don't want success or that fan bases don't want success for alumni, but what kids do or don't do beyond their time at a program is on them, not the coach, program, or fan base.

Every where else, post college career success is icing on the cake for a program. Cal has made it the actual cake. The trickle down philosophy of "Draft night and league riches will enrich the program down the road... ."

You can see it in his face and body language. He is absolutely so concerned with the life these kids live post UK. I'm not convinced he doesn't think about that more than his actual relevant obligations as head coach.
