When does something concrete come out about the baseball stadium rebuild/remodel

The time is upon us. THIS is the type of thing that happens when you wait too long to build premium facilities. It is clear that om has better talent. we need to start reinvesting in the program and that begins with getting rid of an outdated stadium.

the baseball stadium was next on the docket after the tennis/softball complex was it not? that ball needs to get rolling NOW. I would love to see some plans on what the school sees as our future in baseball facilities.

Did I miss something here? If I lump all the MSU and OM baseball players drafted over the last three years in order of draft position, the top three highest drafted players would be:

1) Hunter Renfroe - #16 Overall
2) Chris Stratton - #20 Overall
3) Jacob Lindgren - #55 Overall

We basically have the same number of top 10 round picks over the same period.

I'm betting baseball will be announced soon.

Tennis/Softball is not in anyway connected to baseball being remodeled. I think Stricklin even said it can be done at the same time if that's what we want to do.

It's clear that UM has better talent THIS year. We had a lot of players drafted last year. Next year, I suspect it will reverse again as they lose all their draftees from this year. Bottom line is, over time, both MSU and UM are going to be pretty good and have their share of players get drafted.

Exactly. Some people just want to think because OM had a better season than us this year they are just head and shoulders above us. Here are the facts.

Since the 2010-2011 season, state is 164-88 with 4 regional trips, 2 supers and 1 CWS. OM is 151-94 with 3 regional trips, 1 super and 1 CWS. Head to head in the last 4 years we are 9-7 against them.

they clearly had a talent superior year this year. is that the case every year? no, but just based on stature, speed, and all the measurables, "cohenz and his band of midgets" isnt just a running joke....there is at least some truth to it. its the type of player we are recruiting. we have some young guys that we are developing and that may correct over time, but we seem to be going in a different direction. i want some power and this team is the antithesis of power. its hard to remember balls even going to the deep outfield...

om DOES have better talent THIS YEAR...they had 9 players drafted (lead the nation) and were 2nd in batting average....the quality of team they fielded is better and i dont think that is even debatable. either way, its not a talent question, its when do we start getting our heads out of our *** and build a park that makes a statement question. one begets the other imo. if we want to talk talent, feel free to make a talent thread, but i want to know when we start acting on building what we have talked about for quite some time now.

One thing I'll be interested in if we build a completely new stadium, will we put that awful fake turf over the whole field.

IF we had not made some critical errors at bad times it is my opinion we, not rebels, would have hosted and worked out better for us.

A year ago I would have said "never". But now that we have some turf out there, I would say an entire turf field would be very likely. Unfortunately.

Turf is for upkeep only. It won't expand past what it is. A lot of big programs are getting it. Bet it pays for itself in less than 2-3 years. I think it looks fine and if it saves money while giving the crew more time to take care of the rest of the field I'm all for it.

This is a bit hyperbolic, no? The facilities last year were the same the were this year, yet MSU made it to the damn final, and Ole Miss didn't make it to the Supers.

since you asked, do facilities have an impact on the level of talent that teams are able to bring in? absolutely. i dont think you would find a coach in america that would argue against that. i can give yall all the ideas i have on player recruitment and hitting philosophy if you want, but it doesnt belong in a facilities thread. i thought it was a common assumption that improved facilities far more often than not yield better recruits...if not, we need to get that memo out to every coach in the nation.

we can argue about anything you desire in the OP...is the time REALLY upon us? do we REALLY need to start reinvesting in the program? do we REALLY need to get the ball rolling NOW? do i REALLY hate drop ceilings?

yes, but one could argue that the om team built on classes that had the foundation laid soon after swayze was remodeled in 2009....the same om team that struggled to make it to the cws in the 40+ years of the dilapidated swayze decades before. its easy to offer a counter argument. the reality is that facility improvement can only help. i dont know many om fans that would argue that the improvements to swayze have had no impact on their success. by that same "if it aint broke, dont fix it" faux mentality, polk would still be brooding in some starkville dugout. waiting too long to pull the trigger can cost you in more ways than one and that is certainly true in the facilities game as well.

obviously, its not a perfectly causal relationship....i never implied that it was, but lets not be coy and argue something that we know not to be true such as facilities having nothing to do with improving talent...

just so that i am clear on your opinion, you believe that having the soon-to-be most out-dated stadium in the west does not affect recruiting in any way? sure, that is a very difficult thing to quantify, but common sense should point us all in a reasonable direction here. last time i checked, every single school in the west will have a new stadium/extensive renovations except for us. lsu, aTm, om, auburn, arky, and now bama will all have vastly superior venues in terms of quality. we have quantity, but our quality is **** and we all know it.

if we spent 100 million on a new stadium would that solve all our problems? no...but nobody is saying that.

this thread is a perfect example of why we will never be great in anything...we just cant shake this quirky defeatist mindset. our fans just dont get it. maybe im the idiot...that could be a perfectly logical explanation for my total confusion when i see our fans say suggest things like improving facilities and venue have no measurable impact on team quality. if so, i apologize, as it makes perfect sense in my mind...i feel like im the only one not taking crazy pills.

people say this team was a few bats away from being special (i tend to agree)...what if the facility improvements were enough to add to the mix of a great coach, incredible environment, and storied history enough to sway a special player here or there or on that team? again, difficult thing to quantify, but i dont see it as outside of reasonable expectation.

here is our training room:



i have seen high schools with better player facilities. its all moot, as some type of renovation/rebuild is coming, but i wouldnt mind some open discussion from the athletic dept with regard to what is happening. half our fans are convinced that janet smith is making significant contributions and the athletic department has let them freely think that when all things point to here having minimal involvement at best. why are they dragging their feet? why are they so stingy with the details? they are obviously not obligated to keep me (average joe fan) in the loop, but it would be nice.

Hmmm spend $100 million on a new ballpark while we pay $1 mill a year, dead last in the SEC, for our basketball coach. Yup we won't be making the NCAA tournament in basketball for 10 years.

Yep. Hope they design the ballpark better than they pick their basketball coach. $100 million of buyer's regret is hard to overcome.**
