Flying out of LEX Thursday at 3:40pm and get into JAX at 7:08. Hoping to make it for the tail end of the welcome party for the team that starts at 7pm. They are showing the BB game after the party. Flying back home Saturday night after the game.

This is our plan as well, except for leaving Wednesday night. Hope to get to Asheville or ideally Spartanburg then roll in to Jax early afternoon on Thursday.

Have driven LEX ---> Greenville (right down 85 from Spartanburg) so many times it isn't funny. My best time is 5 hours, 2 minutes into Greenville. You can really hit the hammer on 40 between Knoxville and the Smokies - that's where I make the most time. That and having driven 40 that much, I could do it in my sleep I tend to fly through the mountains.

I'm not diving into any body of standing water in Florida. I'm not looking to get eaten.

The water in the springs and their immediate rivers are crystal clear, so you could likely see what's coming! :)
I tubed the Itchetucknee twice this year. I grew up swimming & snorkeling & kayaking most of the springs and rivers in North Central Florida, though there are a lot more alligators today than when I was young. I have to be careful golfing due to the big lizards in the water hazards.

I live near the Withlachoochee and the worst moment of my life was falling into a bunch of cotton mouths. Never got out of the water so fast in my life. Good thing I was young when it happened. Today I would be a dead man.

We are going through NC to avoid Atlanta. Friends drove through there Monday and said it was a mess.

Sadly, Atlanta traffic has been much better than usual the last week or so because schools are out and people are taking vacations. However, I live on the north side and am dreading driving all the way through on my trip to Jax on Friday morning.

Leaving from Louisville at 4 AM Thursday morning. Should be in Jacksonville around 3 - 3:30, just in time to check in and do a little brewery hopping before settling in to watch the UK/Ole Miss game somewhere.

We live in Louisville and as the crow flies, probably makes more sense to do the Nashville / Atlanta route, but doing the NC /SC to avoid any complications or slowdowns.

It's a much prettier ride through the Carolinas anyway.

Same here. This will be my first time heading to Florida that way.
I was also told to look at taking HWY 25 out of Corbin. It comes out just past Knoxville. Anyone know about that route?

so what is the feeling for the drivers going to Jacksonville, through Atlanta or I-40 in NC and on to I-95, have heard conflicting stories about construction delays on I-95 in SC

Sorry to break it to you but if you are driving South this time of year "there ain't no easy way". The wave of Snowbirds who wait until after Christmas are now coming to Florida and fans of other schools are also driving to bowl games. Add in every Southbound truck in America and you have a traffic nightmare. Drive safely and keep up with the traffic. If you poke along or hesitate an 18 wheeler will run over you. Happened to my first cousin in October.

I tell people that I've always been more concerned with Cottonmouths than gators. I've found myself in a canoe in a nest/ball of them where a tree branch dipped into the water. In trying to get out of there I partially fell out of the canoe but never got wet. Fear will allow one to perform unimaginable feats sometimes. :)

Friday morning at 3am with my son. He was born in Jacksonville in '91 and we still have some relatives there. It will be his first trip to the Gator Bowl...he's pumped.

Sounds about right. You should make it in time for the pep rally at the Landings followed by the light boat parade down the St John's

Hotel is in Southbank, so pep rally across river should be an easy do. Thinking maybe a boat ride to stadium on Saturday morning is something we can do as well.

Definitely the way to go, keeps you out of Knoxville. Corbin exit 29 and stay on 25 all the way to Morristown, TN and interstate 81 to 40 east. That's the way I'm going.

Leaving in a couple of hours. First ever UK football game just happens to be the biggest one in several years!

Oh, and coincides with our second wedding anniversary. I think I found me a keeper!
