when the season went south

The season went south when our schedule got tougher, the way most of predicted it would go. Short of losing to Vandy nothing unexpectedly bad happened.

In terms of wins/losses, youre right. Most thought we'd win two out of UF/USC/Mizzou/UT. We did. Most thought we had a good shot at UL, and we did. Most thought we'd win Vandy, but we didn't.

The bad part wasn't that we got an L, it was how it happened. Being dominated by MSU and UT was not acceptable. Giving up a large lead to UL was not acceptable. Losing to Vandy in such a pathetic way was not acceptable.

All in all, the record is about what we'd predicted. We just looked much worse than we should have in getting there.

I guess I just don't view it that way, I'm a results type of guy. Win by 1 or 100, it counts as one. Same for losses. I get the Louisville game, but guess what, that stuff happens. It happened to the Orange idiots south of us as well.

I just don't get caught up in the margin of victory, it can be terribly misleading.

right, universally all fans predicted we would sweep South Carolina & Mizzou but need OT to outlast EKU

You can't reduce the season down to one moment , so many levels of fail .
In no certain order

QB play
Ol blocking
Wr catching
Special teams execution
Basic tackling
Disorganization on the field
De getting sucked in on reads , allowing plays to bounce outside or containment issues
Scheme execution on both sides
Clock management
Play calling
Feuding in the locker room
Discipline issues , example throwing ball in stands is just one of many
Rb unhappy for a day
There's more but that's the gist of it

Actually I'm encouraged , we won five amidst that ish storm of dysfunction .

I agree with this. I too am encouraged.

Every single one of these listed above can be improved with the basic maturation process......when the 2 or 3 deep are filled with almost all upper-classmen.

And even just one of these can make a difference. For example, Baker. If he makes those 2 TD catches we are very likely 6-6......and quite possibly 7-5............2 drops could've meant that much. Then notice that he took most of the yr off......maybe if he tried the rest of the yr, we finished 6-6. And that's just one player in a few positions.

Wow, not very bright are you. No one with a brain predicted better than 6-6. Everyone knew UofL would a tough one to get. We lost one game we thought we'd definitely win.

Who cares if we had to have to OT to beat EKU, we won. And unless you're looking for a reason to hang the coach that's all that matters

Yes and nobody with a brain expected this schedule to work out to be as friendly as it turned out to be.

Also, UK managed to get their asses kicked by every team with a pulse that they faced after Auburn.

All of our seasons were doomed the minute we lined our sidelines with zero years of experience at each coaches respective position. It's one thing to have one coach getting broken in, it's another when the whole staff is cutting their teeth.
Dan Mullen and Mark Richt had no prior head coaching experience either.

Every coach at one point had no head coaching experience, but they generally put competent proven coordinators in place on their staff. Stoops this year was surrounded by staff members who like him are learning on the job. Not a good formula for success.

The only coordinator on Stoops staff with no experience as a coordinator was Eliot. But since Stoops was a DC, everyone assumed it didn't really matter who our DC was anyway.

Neal Brown had experience at a P5 school. Dawson had experience at multiple levels of football as OC (even if you don't include his WVU stint).

Schlarman was OL coach elsewhere before UK. Chad Scott was RB coach at P5 school. Andy Buh was the DC at Cal. Ansley - well, not sure about his background, but considering our DBs are pretty good, there aren't any complaints about the job he is doing.

So - I don't really think our coaches were/are learning on the fly.

Plus that argument may have made more sense in Year 1, but these coaches now have 3 years experience of coaching UK in the SEC.
