we have gone to 4 bowls in the span of 6 seasons. Jackie set the standard with 6 in 10 years- we are looking to match that at the very worst

Congrats on living in the Golden Era of Bulldog Football guys

I just have to smile and shake my head at the same time. I smile at the thought of the program achieving bowl eligibility and kicking the **** out of the bears on a reasonably consistent basis; but I have to shake my head at the reality of how we have to define success. It's a tough neighborhood, MFers.

Pad the schedule with cupcakes and beat UK and Ole Miss and gobowling but this doesn't take anything away from Mullen. The talent level and strength of the conference has also increased.

Not saying we don't have the potential to, but I am very hesitant and "wait and see" on the offense. The defense should be a beast, but I'm still worried about the running game on offense.

Jackie had to win 3 SEC games. One whole game more, but he also didn't coach during a span of 6 consecutive National Champs from the SEC.

but nobody mentions that when talking about how Stansbury has led us to more NCAA's than anybody in school history

He had some really good years, but other than 2007-2010 he was very inconsistent from year to year and even from game to game.

...who predicted we'd 10 last year, the "golden age of MSU football" might be a little premature.

Much less a .250 Conference winning percentage.

Williams started coaching at MSU the year after the field expanded...3 trips in 12 years.</p>

No acting here. The difference in 3-5 and 2-6 is having Vandy on the schedule to go along with Kentucky, but even that doesn't seem to be the case any longer. The SEC is as tough as it ever has been. The SEC claimed 3 National Championships during the Kang's rein in Starkville. The SEC has also won 3 during Mullen's 1st-3 seasons (all from our division).

The Kang had a winning record against 4 SEC teams. Mullen has a winning record against 3 and has yet to play 1 (Tennessee). Just calling it how it is.

ACC and Big East have had team get in with losing records- and those 2 conferences are much closer to SEC football than SEC basketball is

Alot of people are insinuating that Mullen has hit his plateau and we are at best a 6-7 win program. They use this to disqualify his success in a loaded west. Mullen is doing fine and if he keeps building and some other teams in the west slip, he could capitalize. I think a fair program comparison is MSU pre Mullen and South Carolina pre Spurrier. Look at Spurrier's record since he took over in 05. The blueprint is simple. String together 500 or winning seasons and bowl trips, build your team off that success, and take advantage of the oppurtunity when a "big boy" falters.
