.............anyone EVER suggests to me again that cable is better and more reliable than satellite, and they happen to be standing in front of me, they better brace for impact. ComCRAP cable, at least in the Jackson-Metro market, is just pathetic. Not only do you get charged up the *** for much less content(especially HD channels) than satellite, but several of their HD channels are always suffering from weak signal issues such as fragmenting, freezing, and in some cases being totally blacked out. It can't possibly be any worse with satellite, which I'm about to find out. It's going in next month.

I had similar problems, the tech came out and found a splitter in my attic, where the lazy installer had out pilled up a 100 foot of cable.
He took that splitter out and bam... The he went outside on the pole and boosted my signal somehow....
My HD works great now.... So make sure you have a direct feed from your outside cable souce with no splitter going to your HD box with the shortest length of cable, this will make sure you are getting the strongest possible signal and the best HD picture without degeneration....

Hate to drag this thread back up but if anyone has the HD21 directv receiver (the new HD DVR, black one) you can get a box to addon to it if you can pick up your locals in HD over the air. The box will allow you to plug in an OTA antenna and you will have your local channels in HD running through your directv receiver. It should show them in your guide and allow you to record them. It plugs into your receiver via USB port.

If you were lucky enough to get a HR20 (silver models) it should already have an input straight into the receiver for your OTA antenna.

I switched today to DirectTv and bundled it with my internet, cell phone, and home phone. With the promotions that they have going on I will save $40 a month by switching. Also, I didn't have to buy anything and they gave me $275 in rebates.

My cable package through Comcast was the lowest level digital package, which did not include HD or DVR. My package through Direct has all of the extras that Comcast does not offer.

I was quoted the same deal but one has to think they will have HD locals in the next few months.
