I talked with Dr. S.L. Sethi earlier today. He is the owner of the new Hilton just north of the Hump. He will open within the next week, possibly even this weekend. He will have 105 rooms.

And a Courtyard in Cotton Mills, which is apparently full speed ahead despite the economy.

I'm working on the project right now and have been off and on for over a year. The Fairfield Inn information is correct as well. And West Point is getting a new hotel and two are going to be built in Columbus soon.

The problem is for the hotels to stay open, there has to be enough rooms booked on non-game weekends as well.

I thought I read where part of the deal in which the school sold Comvest the property was a deadline to deliver the student housing by the Fall 2010 semester.

Why in the world would West Point need another hotel. Have they replaced all the jobs they've lost recently?

Aren't the ones renting rooms. The Holiday Inn Express in WP boasts consistent occupancy above 90%. And the Hilton Garden Inn is on Highway 12 Extended, just north of the University. Another one I forgot, Best Western has purchased a site across the highway from the Hilton Garden.

I have been told there is also another big golf tourney coming to Old Waverly. Not sure on how many rooms this new hotel is going to have, but I'm sure they will have no problem filling the rooms.

You weren't a dick. I did a ****** job of making my point. First, I had no idea there was so much demand for hotels in WP. Second, the job remark was based the assumption that demand for lodging would have decreased due to the area losing employers like Bryan that probably drew at least some corporate business travelers. Really, I just can't fathom why anyone would be in WP unless they were just passing through on 45 or there was overflow from an event in Starkville.

and I was mistaken. It isn't a "deadline" but a "target."

Peavy said because of Mississippi Development Authority incentives, retail spaces must be delivered by December 2010.</p>

"Since student housing is a major component of our project, the sooner those units are available, the better," she said. "Our target calls for units to be available for the fall 2010 semester."</p>

for the Arkansas game this year. Had not been back to Starkville since '99. We had a guy's reunion weekend and booked rooms, I forgot what it's name used to be, but its the hotel directly across form the Lodge and Harveys. When I was in school I remember it being ok. Hell we weren't looking for anything nice we just needed a place to pass out when we came back hammered. So, one guy gets out the car to check in, I'm on a business call in the car. Get done with the call, walk into the hotel and look at my buddy and say, "Are you <17>ing shitting me"? NO, NO, NO......Dont swipe that credit carrrrrrrrrrrrrd awwwwwwww......To late. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh 17!

My buddies were in a room around the corner and opened their room door before we did. All we heard was hysterical laughing followed 15 f-bombs. I didnt want to open the door. We just stood there and laughed at one another. I had visions of opening the door only to see two bums humping and a bottle of old crow on the night stand. Guys, this place was the biggest run down ******** I have ever stayed in. Face towels for shower towels, snail trails on the comforters, toilet paper thinner than filo dough. If any of you have made the mistake of staying in the place, you know I'm notexaggerating. Didnt make two ***** because we knew we weren't going to be sober for more than 8 hours the whole weekend. Just never make the mistake we did.

But wasn't groundbreaking set for July 08, then fall 2008, then January 2009, and now March 2009.

I like everything about it except for the movie theater (can't support another). Also, I mean it really seems that for retail you would probably be better building something similar to dogwood festival farther out on 12 or the 25/82 interchange? I think the current location is great in theory, but requires more money making it ultimately less feasible.

What say you since you are working on the project?

In the past 3 years, I absolutely cannot recall ever driving to Starkville and not being able to obtain a room at the last moment...

That place had a good lunch buffet there circa 2002/2003. Fried Pork Chop Thursday was the best.

But you've got to realize they're dealing with multiple landowners, a major university (MSU), a huge corporation (Ergon), GO Zone money, TIF bonds, the City of Starkville, the State of Mississippi, and the National Historic preservation people. A project of this magnitude takes time and delays are inevitable. When/if it's completed, Starkville will be a different place.
