So what do you do when you’re bored?

I think I do a pretty good job of getting away from boredom by traveling or seeing concerts but what about during those times when you can’t get away?

Regarding the previous paragraph, I’ll add that I’m looking forward to the Jimmie Rodgers Music Festival in May & Cathead Jam in June.

Look at pictures of golf courses I'd like to play, but never will.
Research bottles of scotch and bourbon I'd like to taste, but never will.

Try not to be bored to start with.

Work, family responsibilities, playing sports, family activities, coaching, etc- usually limits bored time.

But when I am bored I usually end up doing the same thing I do when I am trying to rest/decompress- watch a show and read stuff in my phone at the same time. Mostly info sites- so info on random places around the world, historical incidents in those places, looking at maps of those places, etc.

I welcome boredom. I always have something to do but when I can do nothing I enjoy it.

I feel like boredom is something most people don’t have any more because of phones, and I kind of admire it. I’m always picking up dumb career projects, and I have to stop myself to allow for space to get bored and think

Heh. In the past few years I’ve done what I could to not be ruled by work. i have to work in order to live but I don’t want to live so I can work.

My family responsibilities and activities are limited— I have no children & no wife. My close relatives here are my mother, stepfather, and a cousin. Plus, I live in Mississippi.

I’m not as vested emotionally when it comes to Mississippi. I’d go so far as to call myself agnostic.

But when I am bored I usually end up doing the same thing I do when I am trying to rest/decompress- watch a show and read stuff in my phone at the same time. Mostly info sites- so info on random places around the world, historical incidents in those places, looking at maps of those places, etc.

I do some of that but it gets old.

I used to think I always have something to do but I don’t now.

And that isn’t a good thing all the time.

I’m older so I think of these things as something that younger co-workers do because they’re building careers and I have maybe single digit years until I retire.

I’ll be even more bored when I’m retired and alone.

Yeah, I just turned 40. I’m still doing career-ish things but a lot of it is self-inflicted at this point.

I’ve written a few novels, none of which are published but that’s the goal. That felt intimidating but was actually really fun and can take up time. Not a big video game guy but did play Minecraft several years ago as a way to build out sci fi worlds in my book, and that was a good time suck too. Have been more career focused and less hobby focused the last few years but hoping that shifts back

Yeah, I really enjoy what I now do for work and am even passionate about much of it, but I am definitely in the 'work to live' category.

I am going to dominate the 17 out of retirement. That was made for me!

My wife had her second knee replacement 4 weeks ago so I have been stuck at home or driving her back and forth to Physical Therapy, which has lead to lots of boring time when I am not either being a nurse or Susie Homemaker. I made a list of projects to work on during this time and have been filling up the time accordingly. I cleaned all of my guns from A to Z. I don’t mean that I wiped them off, I mean that I took them apart and cleaned every component. It took anywhere from 2 to 4 hours per gun so I did one per day until I finished them all. I also hand load my ammo and I have spent several days preparing brass, loading, and even got out for a few minutes to test some loads. A little more time at the loading bench and then I plan to clean out the attic, storage room, and one closet. By the time I finish those task I think my wife will be totally functional again just in time for me to start doing some fishing and hit the turkey woods. We planned this surgery for early February when not much is going on anyway. Surgery After deer season and functional again before fishing and turkey season. I think we planned it well and The biggest downside is the number of Hallmark movies that I have had to endure. Those are brutal.

When I'm bored but have a long list of crap I've been avoiding i do a couple of them then doomscroll

when I'm bored and I've caught up on all my procrastination, I play video games.

I used to always just play video games when I was bored but I've taken to punishing myself for my own procrastination and won't let myself play video games. I'm closing in on being an actual mature adult at age 48. Then I'll be able to play more video games.

Like my late mama used to say, "Only boring people are bored" as that was her retort when I was a child in the 1970s complaining unknowingly that I was "bored".
Too busy with life to be bored.
Heading to Punta Cana this weekend to see Tool in the Sand.
Boredom is for boring people.

I thought that band was gonna be so big when they dropped that album
I heard it first time going through Hattiesburg on the way to PCB. Hattiesburg used to have a awesome altrenative station back then and I heard it and immediately flipped out. Got to PCB and it was playing everywhere!!! Got back home and scooped it up and listened to it non stop, and yes. I thought they were going to be around forever.
