Where are you with Lebby if we finish 4-8?

Caveats

1. I don't want to be 4-8 and hope he finds at least one more win.
2. While all 4-8 records are the same in the history books, they don't all feel equal in the moment. Eight blowouts would be bad but I suspect many of us would be numb after a while. Two blowouts, two games where we keep it semi-respectable, and four games that are close losses is maybe more painful but at least shows signs of progress.

So the question...if we finish 4-8, are you in or out on Lebby? Chances are he's back regardless, but would your enthusiasm for next season be impacted? How much difference would even 5-7 make for you?

Obviously it would be disappointing but really depends on how we look, injuries, etc.

need to get one more though!

2 would be amazing

generally speaking 4-8 would be improvement.

But I'd want to withhold judgement until I see the 8 conference games. Were we competitive? Did we quit at some point?

I also want to see if he's improved on playcalling, clock management, and stuff like that too.

After watching Florida and Arkansas in particular, both of those games are winnable. 4-8 would be extremely disappointing.

Depends on how we lose. Are we just a couple more difference makers or some depth away from winning 3-4 of those 8? I'm fine with that as long as he/Selmon can leverage into acquiring missing pieces. Are we not competitive down the stretch and clearly look like we're at the bottom of the league? In writing him off just like the potential transfers/recruits will be.

I have to look at our talent vs the SEC. We still have a ways to go in that department, so 4-8 is just a stop on the road to 8-4 sooner or later if our NIL holds up. Lebby is the first coach I believe MSU has ever had that will consistently throw deep and recruit the people to do it. I don't care what you have on defense, if the offense has a fast guy that can catch and a QB that can throw it, then there is a chance.

When we play Florida, they will likely be 1-5 on a 5 game losing streak.
When we play Arkansas, they will likely be 2-6 on a 6 game losing streak.

IF that plays out and we lose both those games, then 4-8 is going to feel pretty terrible as we will have finished as hands down the worst team in the conference in both of Lebby's seasons as HC.

I've chalked up GA and TN as losses. We can and should win 2 out of whats left. And in the off season, Lebby is going to draw a lot of interest from larger athletic budget programs. So let's be ready.

He had 2 sacks and 4.5 TFLs in less than a game and a half.
So? It’s hard to name a guy who came from coastal Carolina and who played in 1.5 games the next Jeffrey Simmons.

Yes he would help but saying he’s some huge difference maker is a bit of a stretch with the knowledge we have.

My thoughts now are that we will finish 5-7 or 6-6 although preseason I was more 3-9/4-8. We have seen dramatic improvement over last season, but we play in the SEC, so we need to be competitive. To answer your question, it would be disappointing now if we finish 4-8, my opinion would be all about how we looked in the 8 losses. Is the defense for the season dramatically better than last year? Does the offensive line improve over the first 4 games?

This is how I feel .

but honestly do not believe this team will lose 8 straight. We are beating someone

Look at it also this way, 4-8 this year would make him 6-18 overall, so where are you with him then?

And before you start w/ the "he inherited a disaster" talk, he also wiffed on a bunch of portal players so its not all on the "mess he inherited". He kept Peter Sirmon Jr around after last year and that was a mistake I believe. They need to look damn good in those 8 losses (especially FL, AR, MO) to keep me interested.

It wouldn’t surprise me much to go 0-8. But it would surprise me if the team quit.

Especially the size of the [second half] crowd.
Yeah, except attendance is a an actual issue, as evidenced. This is just a doom post, hypothetical worst case scenario. Let me guess, if we win Saturday, how do y’all feel if we finish 5-7? Are we going to do this every week

Whitson is a difference maker. There's a reason ASU couldn't run the ball with him in, and had no problem running it with him out.
Arizona state changed their blocking scheme in the second half

we stopped them on their second drive

then we turned it over at midfield on the next drive

at that point our defense was gassed

whitson is good. Saying he’s the difference in an SEC win is a stretch based on 1.5 games

Whitson is a difference maker. I don't know why you're even debating this because it isn't debatable. Our entire defensive line is better with him in there, and opposing coaches now don't have to scheme to deal with him.

4-8 would be pretty bad. Need to at least get one more and likely need to beat Ole Miss to keep our crazies on board.

The SEC is not as good as it was last year. We're getting some gifts with Florida and Arkansas, and Ole Miss being at home. Have to win a couple of those.

Whitsons best offer out of high school was coastal carolina

he wasn’t highly sought after in the portal

but you’re right, after 1.5 games you clearly know more than every other coach in college football.
