We have a damn good team. We are much better than last year. Unfortunately the SEC is perhaps the best conference of all time this year. Where we stand remains to be determined. We are going to lose a bunch of games in conference. We also are going to win a bunch. That probably applies to the whole of the SEC. Just hang on and enjoy the ride. There has probably never been a season in any basketball conference in college sports like what we are about to experience.

Just need to survive at 9-9 or 10-8. 11 wins or more would lock up a 4-5 seed at worst.
Our lack of an inside game scares me. If we run into a team with a sure enough 5 man, we have to shoot 70% from the 3 to offset that.

I mean we play 2 in conference. Broome for Auburn who didn’t exactly dominate us last year and Omiyuri for Bama who isn’t exactly a scorer.

I think Nwoko and Murphy are more than capable of doing the job.

There aren’t any Shaq ONeal centers in the SEC

This team needs to keep that chip on their shoulder. Lots to prove. They have to outwork everyone to win, that's just fact. They aren't good enough to win on talent alone.

Well they seem to get up for big games. Their two toughest games on paper were Pitt and Memphis and we dominated them both. Then we almost lost to a 1-7 SWAC team with a net in the mid 300’s, one of the worst teams in Division 1. Remember Cam was supposed to get that game off and he had to go the locker room in the 2nd half to dress out and then play in the game to get that W. Followed that up with a really bad game against McNeese that we just barely won. Also a 10 point loss to a bad Butler team where we were down the entire game.

So knowing all that I’m really excited for league play because we should be up for most if not all of those games. And also remember that Hubbard hasn’t even got going yet, if he gets hot then watch out, we could finish top 5 in the league and snag a top 4 seed. We could also fall on our face and really struggle but I’m hoping this team won’t let that happen. I haven’t been this excited for league play since the Stansbury years

This team can score in bunches. Not as good defensively in Jans first couple years. If they aren’t focused defensively and have an off shooting night, they can play down and lose to a lot of teams.
If they are intense and focuse on defense then they can swarm and then shots are falling, look out, this team can also beat anyone.

I damn sure am excited.

At 11 conference wins we’ll be a locked 3 seed with an opportunity to move up to a 2 in the SEC tournament. We already have 3 Q1 wins and to get to 11 wins that would add 6-8 more Q1 wins to our resume. Our NET as of this morning sits at 11. Ken Pom is 17 and Torvik at 20. All of that points to a high seed.

A center with size like you’re describing isnt really out there much.
Very true.. the game has changed. But occasionally there will be teams that play a lot more inside. I see us struggling against those type.

Look in all for State, I hope they win em all. But Murphy will get manhandled by those two. Omiyuri will hold his on but he will be in foul trouble probably pretty quickly.. I hope I’m wrong but I do not think so at this time.

We don’t match up well with Auburn, but Tennessee will hate to see us on their schedule.

Warren Nolan has us 12-6 in predicted SEC record and a 4 seed.

We may have one SEC game that isn’t a Quad 1 opportunity - the first one.

Contrast to Memphis conference. I saw that their game vs Mississippi will probably be their last Quad 1 game of the season.

That’s why Penny loaded the schedule with as many power conference teams as he could. Basically any loss in conference will be considered a bad loss.

I have no idea how we will fare in the deep SEC but feels like we are headed to a solid seeding and entering the tourney very battle tested.

When a conference exmapnds to as large as the SEC or B10 is, it seems like a record number of teams from the conference making the tournament isn't really a record worth focusing on.

This is the best MSU sports team I have seen in a few years. I was at the Memphis game, it was amazing. I have pulled for the bulldogs since 1980, but it seems this is a special team and we need it.

Considering the Big East had as many teams when they set the record as the SEC does today, I’d say it’s a big deal if the SEC breaks the record. Especially if it breaks it by 2 teams, which it very well might.

Yep. If we get 13 of 16 teams in, that'd be bonkers.

I thought 85Bears' comment was just about a record number of SEC teams making it. So if 8 in 2018 is the SEC's record, I thought he was saying that there would be a record number this year. I don't view 9 or 10 out of 16 as some feat when it was 8 of 14 in '18.
I guess I read the comment wrong.

I'm thinking 9-9 or 10-8 would be ok for making the dance. SEC is going to get in a record number of teams this year. Also, let's watch and see what Ole Miss does at Memphis.....might be a decent marking point as to where we are.

I agree, as you understood the comment. SEC will surely shatter the conference record for bids. Right now projected to get 12 or possibly 13 teams in the tournament. Which is insane. But if you look at what the SEC is doing in the pre-conference schedules, it's pretty insane. 14 teams in top 47 NET rankings this morning. And a combined record of 169-22.

We had folks at the preseason and start of season worried about our "bigs", rebounding, etc. We are currently ahead of last year's team by 2 rebounds per game. Also, last year's team had 107 blocks total. This season we already have 47.

We don't have a traditional back to the basket type of guy this season other than Nwoko. But what we do have is a freak of nature in Murphy who is nearly the size of a center and has like a 15 foot wingspan.

Of course there is going to be a game or 2 that we may get beat inside, but it's not going to happen often. Just look what happened at Memphis. Their 3's weren't falling and they had no answer inside of the paint. They couldn't even get shots off within 10 feet of the rim.

I would put this team up there with the 2004 Road Warriors team. They are very good and this team is probably deeper than the 04 team.
One big difference, though. The 2004 team had a great post player, Lawrence Roberts.
